Outdoor Ed was a 3 day, 2 night field trip that the sixth grade class got to go on. Each day, we would eat three professionally made meals that made me want to stay there forever. At every meal, we were given about an hour to enjoy the glorious cuisine, and it was an all-you-can-eat buffet, so you could stuff yourself to the brim. One night, the cooks provided Chinese food that was amazing. It was probably one of the best meals I had ever eaten. The food at the YMCA had an array of delicious flavors that made my taste buds sing with joy, and has made every meal since then have a different, less enjoyable taste. All the activities at Outdoor Ed provided endless amounts of entertainment , even the classes! Before we left, the teachers split us into small groups that we would travel with during our trip. When we arrived, we got into our groups and went to our first class. The classes at Outdoor Ed aren’t the traditional “sit at a desk and read” classes, they are filled with hands-on learning and hiking through beautiful mountain sceneries. We sang songs, listened to scary stories, and watched skits performed by our teachers and chaperones, and from our instructors that work at the YMCA. One of the skits that got everyone laughing was about a mix-up between a bandana and a banana. At the end of our shindig, we learned a song about our love for the mountains that echoed through our heads for the rest of the night. The campfire was my favorite part of the trip that I feel brought everyone in our class closer

What I love most about Iron Mountain is you’re never too far away from the wilderness. I routinely have deer, rabbits, and other woodland critters in my yard, and it’s not uncommon to come across bears, coyotes, or even moose on the way to exams. Outside of work, there is no shortage of camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hunting, and hiking opportunities. The Fumee Lake Natural Area, just outside of Iron Mountain, has miles of trails to enjoy scenic views, wild life and flowers.…

Physical Education is no longer the stereotypical running laps in a gymnasium type of class. In today’s culture PE has become more progressive and allows for more “outside of the box” teaching strategies, topics, and exercises. The emergence of Wilderness Sports/Adventure Education is the perfect example of a new topic that is far from the conventional ways of a Physical education class. In brief, these topics use unique situations and purposeful activities to provide an environment for learning.
