I ran as fast as I could and and flipped through the air and was happy when I felt my coach’s hand on my back because I knew that I would not fall. My coach then said,” Good job, next time you are doing it by

The crowd went crazy and the lights were blinding. After, getting in my opening position, all the times I had done the routine before, kicked in. I remembered all the corrections my coaches gave me and muscle memory did the rest. My mouth hurt from smiling so hard and my arms were sore from all the motions. When we were about to finish, I looked over at my friend and mouthed, “everything hit.”…

My coaches were equivalent to second parents to me, and I competed with countless other gymnasts for those numerous years. However, as the years progressed, people came and went.…

In the spring of my sophomore year I decided to rejoin the track team. After the first week, I noticed a new coach was on the far side of the football field working with a few kids teaching them to pole vault, so I went over and started to learn the basics of vaulting. A few practices went by, and my coach thought it was time for the beginners to start vaulting with a bar. My first attempt was an utter disaster; my back hit the bar and I fell straight down onto it, where it left a pretty sizeable bruise. Ted, my coach reassured me that I’d get the hang of it after more practice.…

I lived for gymnastics and I still do. Walking into the gym always boosts my mood and gives me a rush of determination.…
