My first step being back, I quickly realized the ball was much closer than I thought. However, it was still out of reach. The only chance I had was to dive, and so I did. We was down by one run, I had the chance to win the game. My daddy had pulled me to the side, and said, “You are going to have a chance to win this game, believe in yourself, and you can do it.” Getting in the box, I was scared to death. Cheerleading Tryouts “Come on Lauren you’ve been doing this way too long, you’ve been on the team every year since you were 14.” I said to myself as I walk through the halls of my High School. Today is May 24, the first day of the annual cheerleading try outs and for some reason I’m extremely nervous even though I’m a three year veteran. I go through my classes talking to all my other cheer friends saying how this is going to be a breeze and how we can’t wait to start the season even though my stomach is literally overwhelmed with butterflies. DING DING DING!!!…

Since a very young age, I have had an interest in, and enjoyed caring for others when they are sick or injured. During my Freshman year of high school, I began to realize that the medical field was my calling. I was not sure what area of study I wanted to pursue a career in, but I knew that I had an affinity for the sciences and the medical field. It wasn't until two years later, my Junior year, that radiography became the area of the medical field that I knew I wanted to concentrate on. I have been a cheerleader since third grade.…

Many say “Cheerleading isn’t just a sport. It’s a way of life”. If you said that to me four years ago, I would have never believed you. Now, there is no question in my mind that this is true. I was on the varsity cheer team at my high school from freshman to senior year.…

Cheerleading is usually categorized as something that is not a sport because it does not look “intense” or “tough” enough to be labeled as one. I always wanted to give it a try which is why I agreed to join a cheerleading team with my friend during the time that I was in middle school. She was extremely flexible since she had been doing gymnastics for a long time. I on the other hand, did not participate in any activity as such that favored my flexibility which is why once I eventually started cheerleading, it became a struggle for me. A hobby does not necessarily have to be built around the foundations of competition, but can instead be viewed as something that can have the potential of being enjoyable which many people do not take in mind now a day.…

However, the trouble with throwing the word “sport” around is that most people would not be able to correctly define exactly what a sport is. Some will say there has to be a ball, but what about hockey? They don’t use a ball. Others say a sport has to require skill, but someone can be skilled at balancing a pen on their lips but that is not a sport. According to Merriam-Webster’s definition, a sport is a contest or game in which people do certain physical activities according to a specific set of rules and compete against each other.…

Ever since I was six years old cheering on my local Pop Warner team, I have dedicated an unwavering amount of time and dedication to my beloved sport. At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

I can honestly say by being a cheerleader more relationships have been created for me, and I have been created into a more friendly person with a lot of character.
