Personal Narrative Essay On Cheerleading

The lights were blinding; the crowd was waiting anxiously; I sat timidly, while my heart raced like a racehorse at the Kentucky Derby. I arrived in Dallas, Texas, on a chilly February morning. Almost an inch of fading snow, drifted to the ground and the whole city was in panic. Streets shut down, however, my team and I managed to make it to the national cheerleaders association competition. Their mantra is “the work is worth it,” but I will determine that for myself. This was like the Olympics of cheerleading and anxiously awaited it. My team and I had been working for months, perfecting two minutes and thirty second of the hardest routine physically possible. Blood, sweat and tears, shed on a daily. Every night we practiced for hours and I underwent countless panic attacks over schoolwork. Our primary goal was to win NCA. After a few broken bones and concussions, we made it to Dallas, where we prayed for our dream to become reality. My team had bonded over the same dream; …show more content…
The crowd went crazy and the lights were blinding. After, getting in my opening position, all the times I had done the routine before, kicked in. I remembered all the corrections my coaches gave me and muscle memory did the rest. My mouth hurt from smiling so hard and my arms were sore from all the motions. When we were about to finish, I looked over at my friend and mouthed, “everything hit.” We struck the last pose with confidence; It was flawless. Immediately I ran and gave my friend a hug as hot tears ran down my face. My coach always said that when you did a routine perfectly, you will know and you will be so happy you can not stop crying. After two years, I finally felt that. The whole team burst out crying as we ran off stage in each other's arms. The coaches were also crying; they were so proud.
