One night as I was strolling back home from a nearby convenience store, I gazed at the full moon and I remembered my first night hike in Bark Lake. It was an exhilarating experience. One Monday night, the full moon was shining brightly as our Grade 7 class embarked on a night hike. All was silent except the slight murmuring of the voices of my classmates. My friend Abby and I were terrified because of our irrational fear of the dark and were tightly gripping each others hands as we approached the forest that was faintly lit by the light of the moon. Once we had regained our balance we brushed off our pants that had mucky leaves all over them and began to jog to catch up with the rest of the class. As we were running, we stepped in a puddle and were soaked up to our knees in dirty water. Abby and I were both wishing we had flashlights, but they were prohibited because the Bark Lake staff wanted us to improve our night vision and adjust our eyes to the dark. We kept on hiking, trying to feel the way with our feet, making sure we don't stumble over rocks or tree roots. We then came across another large rock except this one was jagged, rough and bumpy. We carefully climbed over the rock and when we were jumping off it, I landed on the side of my ankle and sprained it. For the rest of the hike, I was limping, trying my very hardest to keep up with the group. After a long and tiresome walk, we made it out of the forest and made it into a small section of open space before another forest of trees. As we made our way past the trees, the lake beside us came into view and was glistening with the reflection of the moon and the stars were mesmerizing to look at.
