Personal Narrative Essay On Azrael's Journey

Personal Narrative When I was five years old, my family and I went on a road trip to California. this was when I lived in Kansas, so I was really excited to visit family I never met there. My uncle had a skateboard collection and my mom was riding around on a longboard. She asked me if I wanted to learn how to skate. I said yes. That was the best choice I ever made. Ever since then I have been fascinated with skating and learning new tricks. My brothers and I can all skate well, although my younger brother Azrael (who is 9) is the the best. We have all been learning slowly, but now I can ollie, do a pop shuvit, drop in, and do many other things. When I first tried skating with my mom I was mad because I just couldn’t figure it out. I practiced …show more content…
We moved again, and were on the road for a long time. You know the saying “use it or lose it”? Well, it’s true. Me and my brother hadn’t skateboarded in almost 2 years. We couldn’t remember how to do anything but the basics. It was embarrassing. Azrael and I started to reteach ourselves, all the while teaching our younger brother Raevyn.
We have met a lot of people at skate parks. Almost all of those people are still or good friends. They teach us new tricks everyday and some of those people don’t even ride skateboards! Jasmine taught me that no matter how mad you get, it’s ok to throw your skateboard, just not at other people. Zack taught us that longboard wheels can’t be put on normal skateboards or the skateboard won’t even move(he taught us that on accident… He did it to himself). People teach my brothers and I stuff everyday, just sometimes we don’t realize it. Right now we are all pretty good skaters, but not as good as we used to be. We will get better though. For some reason my brother wants hover boards to replace skateboards. Me and my real dad built one once but it worked by using extremely strong magnets. We put a large magnet on the ground and one in the hover board. The magnet on the ground repelled the one in the board and the board floated…but imagine how much it would cost to make a whole skate park out of magnets for

Popping An Ollie Physics Around Campus Ryan Meehan Physics 102 Spring 2017 This is a picture of me popping an ollie in the basement of Dooley Hall. An ollie is the first trick that many skaters learn, as it is the foundation for almost every other trick and can help skaters avoid obstacles such as small cracks and rocks that could ruin your day, and knees. The physics behind popping an ollie is very interesting, and after teaching my friends, and kids that I babysit how to skate, there are a lot of common misconceptions to what really happens when someone ollies.…

Skating offers freedom in allowing skaters to create something out of nothing. Musician and former skater, Ian Mackaye, summarizes this common mindset about skating in saying, “Skateboarding is not a hobby. And it’s not a sport. Skateboarding is a way of learning how to redefine the world around you. It’s a way of getting out of house, connecting with other people, and looking at the world through different sets of eyes.”…

As a driver who drives frequently in the city on a daily basis, it has occurred to me recently that more and more skateboarders are enjoying the sport on busy downhill roads and within the busy districts of San Francisco without wearing sufficient protective gear. Even while going down hills at surprisingly fast speeds next to cars and pedestrians, many skateboarders, mostly adolescents, choose not to wear any protective gear. According to McKenzie, the most common injuries treated in emergency departments associated with skateboarding were fractures and dislocations, lower extremities for older individuals, and face; head; or neck injuries for younger individuals. These injuries can be reduced or even prevented by changing a skateboarder’s behavior – in this case wearing protective gear and being aware of one’s…

If you graduated high school you remember the fast whirlwind of senior year. College applications alone are like a hurricane that won’t give up until it takes everything out of you. They judge you based on grade point average, ACT/SAT scores, and extracurricular activities. Not everyone can have a four point oh grade point average, multiple varsity letters, be president of different organizations, have time for friends and family, and still somehow be a teenager. If you look at a person based solely on their title there aren’t that many leaders.…

I've always loved snowboarding through sickness and through health. It’s a stress reliever that helps me cope with my problems. When I was thirteen I had colorful green and white snowboard with abstract designs, when I stood tall it would come up to my chin. I grew attached to it because I've been through so much with the board. You could tell it was starting to wear down due to cracks in the base that looked like large canyons and every year I would take it with me to Vail to use it.…
