Personal Narrative Essay: My Moments On The 8th Grade

Improved Essays
Everyone has those moments when you’re so proud of yourself. My moment came in eighth grade. I was on the track team and it was the last meet of the year. My goal that season had been to break the school record. I hadn’t even come close. Little did I know that my goal was about to be achieved.
We were competing against Center Grove. They were a competitive team and we weren’t expecting to win. I had mixed feelings about that night. I was excited to compete, but at the same time I didn’t want it to be over. I was also very nervous, but through my nerves I still got the feeling that something good was going to happen. While I was warming up, I reminisced on my season so far. I had been having a pretty good season so far. I had won most every

They raised the bar to 4’10”, the school record. I closed my eyes. Don’t freak out. You can do it. I encouraged. I approached my mark and took a deep breath. I ran up and jumped, knocking the bar off. I willed myself to calm down and focus. Tim came up to me and critiqued me. I thought about what he was saying as I made my way back to my mark. This time when I jumped I did everything he said. I cleared by three inches, according to Tim. He raised it to 4’11”. I knew I that in order to break the school record I had to make this jump. He called my name. I looked around me and my whole team was there to support me. My parents and grandparents were sitting behind me. I turned around and walked slowly up to my mark. I jumped a couple times and took a few deep breaths. You can do this. One jump and you’ll have the school record. I urged. I rocked back and forth and back and forth and back and forth to find my rhythm I rolled out my ankle, shook out my hands, and leaned back one last time. And then I was off. Hurtling towards the bar faster than I’ve ever run before. My foot slapped the track and my spikes dug in. I pushed myself upward and soared over the bar. I felt like I was flying. When I landed on the mat, the crowd went wild. I crawled off the mat and looked around. All I could hear was the blood rushing through my ears. I was so hopped up on adrenaline that I didn’t see my best friend come up to hug me. I turned away, and walked back to my mark trying to calm

Seeing the best athletes from around the state made me feel scared and frightened. Of failure. In that instant, I realized that my fear was going to chase me onto the track and all the way to the end. Starting the 100 metre heat was one of the scariest things I may have ever done in my life. In what seemed like a second, I had crouched down, hear the set sound and gone racing down the track.…

I started hockey when I was in first grade, or seven years old. I wasn’t the greatest when I first started, but I always practiced the hardest I possibly could . The thing I remember the most about hockey was when I was little was going to the ice rink every Sunday morning with my dad, which was the part of hockey that I loved the most. At those practices we always worked on the basic fundamentals such as skating and stopping. Now that seems easy, but it once was very difficult for me.…

Prior to middle school, I thought I was satisfied with my position. I had friends, got along with my teachers, excelled in sports, and got decent grades in my classes. Back then, I thought this well-roundedness I sought between these necessities would offer me self-satisfaction. Little did I know, however, that I was going to confront this well-rounded nature of mine during my first awards ceremony in middle school. Among the most intelligent, artistic or athletic of the students present there, I was the one of the few who simply struggled to stand out.…

I never really paid any attention to the saying keep your friends close but your enemies closer, that was until middle school. I rode the bus everyday, and I made sure I made friends with the people on the bus realizing that I will be stuck with these guys for a while. That's always been my mentality just stay under the radar and survive, but in this case I wanted to see if maybe this time I could change, even turn over a new leaf. Nobody knew who I was, just a another student passing by in a school of fishes. Around the last quarter of 8th grade year, I went on the bus as usual, and said hello to my friends, but weirdly enough nobody said anything back, I felt as though I was in the twilight zone or something.…

In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

The bright sun hung in the sky, the breeze was blowing gently, the green grass swung lightly, my friends and I ran and laughed on the playground. I always dreamed of this dreamland when I was in junior high school after I fell out with my friends. The image, which also reminds me of the belief that I was so sure of before is not true. When I entered junior high school, I had several friends. At the very start, we discussed our homework or some questions and played together during extracurricular time, we spent a splendid time.…

For the first five years of elementary school, I attended the small school located at the back of our church’s property. Enrollment ranged from about 10-15 students in 1st through 8th grade. The last three years of my grade school experience were spent attending Lodi Seventh-day Adventist Elementary. This school went from kindergarten to 8th grade and fed into Lodi Academy, so in all, kindergarten through 12th grade! I came from a small, two-room school, and seeing as I was not very accustomed to being with such a large body of students, suddenly becoming immersed in a class with more students than that of my entire old school was definitely intriguing!…

My Junior year of high school was my challenging year, the reason to that is because we had to study for our Act also we had our grad MCAs to take. I must say it was really difficult knowing that we had those two big major tests in the same week. The amount of studying was ridiculous but in my head for a whole two months I was reminding myself that it will benefit me in the future that I need this to graduate. One part I didn 't have to worry was a portion of the MCA like the Algebra part. But the part that was extremely hard for me was geometry.…

I suppose that I must accept that summertime, and more importantly, summer vacation, has ended. Moreover, the summer’s cessation means that my senior year of high school has commenced. As in the past number of years, weekdays during the school year hold for me the essence of adulthood: routine. Every day, at five thirty in the morning, I awake to the painfully bright blue face of my alarm clock. The hammer-like strike of my fist upon the top of the device in order to silence clock’s incessant chirps serves as my form of revenge.…
