Personal Narrative Essay: My Lucky Day Of A Deer

Improved Essays
It all starts out dark…so dark that I couldn’t tell if my eyes are open or even closed. Before the sun comes up, it is so peaceful and quiet that I would be able to hear a pin drop from afar. This is just the start of a long sit in the woods to try and harvest a deer. Sitting in a tree stand for hours at a time with nothing but myself and the nature around me just waiting for a single moment to shoot my shot at a deer. As time goes by I begin to wonder if today is going to be my lucky day or not. Then, just as I began to rest my eyes and listen to everything around me I hear the footsteps of a deer.

For as long as I can remember, I loved the outdoors. You could always find my outside building forts, making trails, and even catching smaller animals with traps that I would build from scratch. Even though I wasn’t really hunting at the time, I would put on camo and walk around the woods looking for deer that I would never find. It was always a dream of mine to go hunting and learn how to do it the right way. I am the only person in my immediate family that did these kinds of things so I never got taught the ways of hunting deer.

He, an avid hunter, talked to me and told me what had to be done to be able to go hunting. So, since I was older with a job, a truck, and a determined mind that still wanted to accomplish the dream I had, I saved up my money bought a bow, boots, and a tree climber to be able to hunt the right way. Now the time has come to go hunting. Throughout the year, I kept learning more and more about what to do and how to make my decisions on where to

“Killing the Big One” It was just any ordinary day in January and deer season was in full swing. We had been hunting hard all season and I was still yet to get my first ever deer. I was being patient though and not trying to rush things because even at the sight of deer my heart would start pounding out of my chest! My dad would always remind me “You just have to breath and stay calm then aim at the front shoulder and squeeze the trigger.”…

When I went on my first deer hunt I was 10, I shot my first doe with my Savage 243. The doe was fifty yards when I looked down my scope and lined my crosshairs right on the front shoulder. When I pulled the trigger she ran twenty yards, I made a perfect shot on her. We went to pick her up to load her on the four wheeler. She was heavy, but finally got her on the ATV and drove her to the barn.…

The meals this hobby provided for my family are ones I’ll never forget. The memories of the hours of sitting in a blind, either drawing in the dirt, trying to harmonize with the birds, and sitting in my Father’s lap while he let me try and pull back the strong strings of his bow will always be stirred up by the taste of deer meat spaghetti. We earned those meals, we put in hours of work and were patient for weeks and finally after Lord knows how many hunting trips we’d leave with dinner for my family for months. Although the meals were just something my Dad whipped up on a whim, the time I got to spend with him and the effort we put into those meals will be the memories I’ll never…

But when you are walking in the woods you want to try and act like a deer by how they walk also hunters can do this by walking in a erratic stop and go pattern, but simply most easiest way is to just go with the flow because you will never have the same hunt. Deer are mostly accustomed to hearing squirrels running through the leaves and limbs falling from trees, but if a hunter goes out and doesn’t spray any scent on him to cover him up a deer will smell you from miles away and won’t come to your stand. Deer live in the wood twenty four hours, seven days a week they know what sounds are normal to them and what sounds are not if a hunter makes just the slightest noise of something slamming against metal when you are climbing up a stand the deer will get curious around their territory. Another thing that all hunters should do is not let your guard down because the minute that you do the biggest buck of your life could walk right past you and you didn’t get the shot off, but if you don’t let your guard down you have to be calm and quiet because when you see the big buck your adrenaline will kick in and your heart will be racing so much but everything can happen so fast in a blink of an…

In mid October early in the morning the day was crisp and chill. The sun was just burning the morning fog off of the lakes cool waters. The dew on the grass and trees was glistening from the sunlight and the bird were singing their songs of jubilee . The entire woods were peaceful and still, and the sunrise was magnificent. During this moment I realized how beautiful nature is when the outside world is a distant memory, and all we need to do is take advantage of the little things life gives us and never stress the big ones too much.…

It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I’m not much of a morning person, so waking up can be a difficult challenge for me. Since it was just my first year of deer hunting, my dad had agreed to sit out in the stand with me just incase any trouble came about. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
