Born and raised out in the woods, I've always been the adventurous sort. I love to go new places, try new things, and be outdoors. A waste of time in my eyes is a crime; I always want to be doing something. I love animals; I have two dogs and a cat but would love to have more. I used to have chickens and a goat, and I miss having them. Due to where I was raised, I am an introvert. Although in the past year or so, I have been striving to be better in social environments.
In my early years, I would follow my dad around outside, as he worked on projects around the property. Whether it is fixing a fence, maintaining the trails, or chopping wood, I was almost always helping. This came in handy down the road.
I went to High School at Toutle Lake. On my first day, I met my best friend at recess. I was walking around, doing something, and Curtis came over and said, “Hi, I’m Curtis. Want to be friends?” I’ve had other friends come and go, (most of my friends moved away), but Curtis has always been by my side. When I heard about the Running Start program, I was excited about it. Instinctively, I told my best friend about it, and now we both attend Lower Columbia College.
Over a year ago now, I was visiting my grandparents in Salem, and I got a call from my dad. Long story short, my dad had a new girlfriend, and she and her two kids had moved into my house. I came back home to Washington and moved into a women’s shelter in Longview for a couple months so I could continue school at

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

Hanging out with my friends is all I do. I like hunting with my dad, Dutch Holland, during hunting season. Skating with my friends is also one of my favorite activities to take part in. I am the type of person to correct people when they are wrong. My parents say that I think I’m smarter than everyone, but I already know I am.…

Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

In high school my most outstanding example of a time when I set an example as a student leader was my sophomore year in high school. My sophomore year of high school I was brought up to the varsity soccer team, the team that I was on was not extremely hard working and or dedicated. As a sophomore I was afraid to stand up and verbally tell the entire team that we need to step it up, or we are going to have a horrible season, so I decided to make my statement apparent by my actions. First, I started by always being the first one to every practice, putting pressure on my other teammates to do the same, in result everyone started to arrive to practice earlier. The second step I took was difficult since I was one of the youngest players and the…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

The next day, I woke to my mom telling me that they’d purchased a house and I’d be attending a winter term there. I panicked, knowing once we moved there my anxiety would be through the roof. For the past year I had tried conveying the message to my dad that I had bigger dreams than becoming a ski racer. I spent three days at the new school before gathering the courage to stand up to my dad. I talked to my coach about how I was feeling and he fully supported me.…

My senior year was an emotional year, and not in a good way. It started off great, I was made Captain of the girls varsity volleyball team and was excited to attend UTA the coming fall. In high school I ran track and cross country. Almost every workout we were given our mile time coach wanted us to run. The next question would be what are the quarter mile splits.
