My Journey of Working With Children Not all journeys begin with a positive outlook or are wanted in the first place. One of my most memorable journeys began without a desire to take on the journey. This journey took place four years ago right after the school year concluded, the summer before my freshman year of high school. I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

For my service hours for Public Health class, I served at the Boys and Girls Club where I worked with children from the age of five to twelve. Upon arriving at the Boys and Girls club last week, I came across a few thoughts of how it would be to work with children. I expected the work to be very stress-free and less overwhelming than any other services. Another expectation I had was that volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club would be like any other experience, like the one of many times when I have tutored kids.…
