First College English Class Analysis

First College English Class I have always regretted taking any kind of English class. Growing up, English was my hardest class and I seemed to never do well on papers. Writing papers, reading books, and analyzing texts showed no interest to me and I was always satisfied with my first draft. As I signed up for fall classes, English 1000 of course a requirement and had to be taken. I was hoping there would be close to a 100 people in the class so that I wouldn’t have to answer questions and put myself in front of others. That expectation changed once I walked into class to only see 20 people waiting for the teachers first words. My first thoughts were well hopefully there won’t be much discussion. The prompt was to write about a social problem in pop culture that has had a large impact on our society. Finding the topic for me was one of the hardest parts of the essay. I wrote about Colin Kaepernick’s protest on racism by kneeling for the national anthem during an American professional football game. As I was writing this paper I took a stance and disagreed with Colin because of many reasons but what I realized after many corrections I had a lot of personal opinions and voice in it. I remember our discussions in class and we talked about the paper and what you expect of us and what a good research paper looks like. You mentioned multiple times about how our voice should be small compared to the research and articles that support our opinions. As I worked on that I felt a lot more confident on my paper. During this essay one of the most helpful classes was when we went to the library and learned how to find scholarly articles. I have always just used google or gone through the troubles of checking out a book in the library. Now I have multiple ways of being able to find specific articles not only on the internet but journals that our library
