Personal Narrative Essay: My Fear Of The Dark

As a child was always afraid of the dark. I guess it was because of all those horror movies my cousins would put on every night that took place in the dark. After all of that it paranoid me for days, causing me to be afraid of the dark, and the dark figures in the dark, violet, sky. Everynight, before going to sleep, I would turn on a tiny light bulb to keep my fears away. That's how it was for years and years until suddenly I was a grown kid. I was ten years old now and I was old enough to to live in the dark without fear. One day I decided to face my fear for once so I entered my room and without a pause, I turned off the little light, sat on my bed and closed my eyes tightly. I began imagining being in a warm, sunny playground, filled with little children's laughter and this drove off the fears away. After what seemed like a long time I opened my eyes to find myself back in the silent, dark, empty room. On second thought it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be; it was still creepy but I could l get use to it. It's been a month now and I am no longer afraid of the dark, I’m brave. Harry Potter shows courage when he teaches the D.A members new spells to defend themselves and he shows courage when trying to rescue someone he cares about. Katniss shows courage as well because she risked her life to save her sisters. Now Katniss has to enter the hunger games and she must kill other tributes to survive. Through my own experience of facing my fears, it can be very scary and very difficult, but in the end after you face them you start to feel like nothing else can scare you anymore, like you're the strongest in the world just like Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen in the end of their
