His survival was a miracle. He has blonde hair and blue eyes, and he is very small due to his arrival 6 weeks early. When Colton was born, he had open heart surgery, because he had 3 holes in his heart. He also had bilateral hernia surgery which is needed when a hernia is developed in both the right and left sides of the groin. My brother, Colton Gilliam is 4 years old with Down Syndrome. Colton is my hero and influences me to stay strong. That little guy overcame 2 surgeries within the first month of life. It was very emotional and hard for me because I had to sit there and to see him like that was hard. I missed a lot of school due to the surgeries and his birth. He himself always has a smile and is laughing. He is very energetic and is happy to see people when they get home or to our house. With him being energetic and happy, he is always happy non-stop all the time. At school he is learning to speak and can say many colors, he can say blue, red, yellow, green and purple. Finally, how he inspires me.
He inspires me to stay strong like he did when he was little. Colton is now 4 years old. Him pushing through the surgeries was hard for him and the family because they took so long to complete. Both took about 3 days to complete. One week he was having open heart, the next bilateral hernia. It was life threatening to him.
