The House

It all started on Wednesday September second. That was when my parents broke the news to me and my younger sister Lauren that we had to move to a new house. We had to move from our house in Connecticut all the way to Ohio. I wasn’t excited about the whole moving thing because I like my house here in Connecticut, but we have to do what our parents tell us. Our parents didn’t ask us if we wanted to move, They drove down to Ohio, found a house they liked and bought it.

One by one I packed everything into boxes and then taped them up. When I was finished I walked into my sister's room to see if she needed any help packing. “Lauren, why aren’t you packing any of your things.” I asked her. “Because I don’t want to move, I want to stay here.” “I want to stay here too but we have to go.” With that I walked out of her room and walked downstairs to get something to eat, because after a day of packing you get hungry.

When I went downstairs my dad was working on packing up the kitchen tools and decorations. “Hey Caleb can you help me pack up some things, it will only take a few minutes.” My Dad asked me. “Yes, I guess I can.” And there I was packing things again. What was going to just take a few minutes turned out to be a few hours. Finally when

It was old that's for sure. “Well how do you like your new home?” my Dad asked me. “It is really old and dirty.” The windows were all boarded up, the stairs had holes in them, the only good thing about this house that I liked was how big it was. The rooms were so big, so was the kitchen. Mom would definitely be able to fit all of her decorative tea pots on the shelfs in the kitchen. My sister looked surprised when she walked through the door. “Is this really where we are going to be staying?” “Yes it is honey, we are going make it look brand new.” “Okay.” “Caleb, why don’t you and your sister go upstairs and pick out your

The day I moved to Georgia, we had been living in Texas for five years when my mom said we were moving to Georgia. I graduated my senior year from high school I thought she was lying, but she said that the VA center down in Texas was awful, and she didn’t like it there anyways, but she really wanted a better VA system. Then we started packing every month putting stuff in storage, and having to do open houses every other week, we had to clean, vacuum and take our pets with us every time we left the house until our house finally sold. Then we started looking at houses In Grovetown, also for a good school system then we waited 3 weeks for a house because we were looking at spots with upstairs and down stairs, a big backyard for or dogs, also a school…

After being in my room almost all day, reading my book, I went to go see what my family was doing. "We're moving!" my parents announced as I entered the room. Moving didn't bother me much, but when I was told we were moving to Oklahoma I was shocked to say the least. I was shocked because I lived in California at the time and I had only ever moved to a different city at most.…

What started my love of swimming was when I was at a tender age of three my parents took me to Florida, I observed other kids taking swimming lessons and I decided to start swimming right then and there. On top of that, part of my old school’s curriculum was to have swimming once or twice a week. One of the many reasons why my parents and I moved to Florida was because of my love of swimming. Even though I started school with an exorbitant amount of homework, my parents and I swam at an olympic size pool religiously every Sunday.…

It was the house I had lost my first tooth, learned to swim, and was the place I loved and felt the safest. I felt my heart crack like a bowling ball falling on a porcelain tile. Moving here from North Carolina when I was four changed my life completely, I was away from my family who I lived with my whole life, thrown into a school with a bunch of kids who lived here since they were born and told to “make friends.” This changed the next 13 years of my life to something I can never picture not having. The first four years, both my parents had full time jobs and my grandma helped raise me a lot, she taught me so many manners and how to behave, she even ended up living across the street from me for 2 of those years, they were rough for my parents, new baby, just moving, having to find jobs, making friends, and getting food on the table for me. Thats where my amazing family came in, with bringing home cooked meals…

Wanting to laugh, but he didn’t. Upon entering the house, Justin looked around the small dark living room, noticing the ragged and worn drapes covering part of the large window. An old blanket hung over the rest of the window preventing the outside light from entering except through a rip on one end. Watching Ernest turn on a dim light amazed him. Noticing an old table covered with a yellowed, vinyl tablecloth, along with two chairs placed by the window and chair parts lying in the corner waiting for repair.…

Picking up my life and moving to Wisconsin wasn’t the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. Over the past fourteen weeks, I have had the joy of meeting phenomenal groups of new people within my job, my GA position, classes, and volunteering. Although I have had a great time getting to know others, I have felt a little inauthentic. Like most people, when I meet new people, I try really hard to make a good first impression. I have remained acting like my scatter-brained, self-conscious, excited self while meeting new people; however, I haven’t let anyone know that at the beginning, I didn’t necessarily feel as much at home as I had at the beginning.…
