Personal Narrative Essay: Middle School

I bit my lip and tried the scale again. I felt my fingers fly through the progression, and I played the phrase just as my mind imagined it should sound. I rested my hands and waited for my teacher, Ms. Julie to respond. We had been practicing this piece exclusively in preparation for my audition to a prestigious middle school for the performing arts. I was intimidated by the audition as it was, but I was beginning to feel more intimidated by my teacher. She clicked her tongue in disapproval and corrected something about my posture. My shiny, black Mary Janes stretched to the pedals and I tried with all my will to remain straight. Suddenly, my mouth went dry. I heard a crack from the audition door as it echoed through the hallway.
I was next.

“Don’t forget, the paper is due next Wednesday!” My 8th period teacher, Mrs. Oakford told to my class and I as we streamed out of the cramped classroom on a Friday. We couldn’t wait to bust out of the schools doors and claim our prize of a short freedom for surviving another busy, exhausting, and slow week of middle school. I rushed to my locker, grabbed everything I would need for the homework due Monday, threw it in my bag and headed down the hall collecting my friends to walk to town to start what I would hope would be a slow but fun weekend off The weekend went quicker than I wished and before I knew it, it was late Sunday night and I still hadn’t done my homework, I realized this and got to work.…

In the seventh grade, I faced a large transition in life. The previous year I had experienced middle school for the first time, but I would make that entrance again. I moved from Texas to North Dakota, where seventh grade was the first year of middle school. I took on those same fears and hopes that I had faced before, but in an unfamiliar place where I had no one except for family to give me support. I tried a lot of new things that year, mainly wrestling.…

Amber has been a friend of mine since we met in Fourth Grade. We were in the same grade, went to the same school, and shared many classes together. We both belong to the school band and both played the oboe. For several years in Junior High, we were official BFF's (Best Friends Forever), enjoying such typical adolescent girl activities as sleepovers, movies, (Yes, we both loved the Twilight series at the time) and incessant texting. We were similar in so many ways.…

Back in Middle School on a class trip, a group of my friends were engaging in an activity late at night that I knew was against the rules. They assumed that nobody had seen them although my roommates and I were fully aware of the situation. It was tough to decide whether to tell an adult what they did because of the possible punishments that could affect my friends. I figured that I would give them a day to come forward themselves and do the right thing, but they did not. The next day I told one of the teachers what happened and they later had a meeting with all of those involved.…

Your first year of middle school can be slightly different if you don't know anybody. The challenges I faced on the first day of school in 6th grade was the fact that I knew no one.
