Brielle shouted angrily,” Those litterbug! They bother me so much!” She punched her first in her hand. Chandler put her arm around Brielle and said,” Calm down. I have a plan.” The best friends formed a huddle. Chandler pulled out three life vests and a trash bag from her backpack.

Book 9.5- The Psithyrismos Falaina’s Attack “We were still escaping from the wrath of our discouraged adversary, the Cyclops, and our ship drifted on the sea after being showered by a massive amount of boulders. When we had been sailing for about a week, not knowing where our voyage would be taking us, an incredible storm crashed down on the ocean. Our ship tumbled and turned in the massive waves that slapped us, and bits of the sides of the ship chipped off from the powerful strength of the water. I know that this storm was a message to us from the gods as a punishment for what I had done to the Cyclops.…

As I peered down the bluff, I saw the magnificent black-and-white beasts breach the water of the Salish Sea. The L-pod resident orcas were gliding past Henry Island in the San Juan Islands of Washington State. This sight reminded me why I was in the San Juans in the first place: to appreciate nature and do my part to protect it. I finally got to experience these natural beauties that I had heard oh-so-much about from the locals. The sea breeze flowed onto my face, and I appreciated the wonder of it all.…

Throughout the last few years I have had many experiences that have shaped me into someone and provided me with many traits that could allow me to become a great Marine. Yet, the three that stand out the most would be that I always persevere to get the job done, I always make sure I do what is right for my peers and not just for me, and I make sure that I help others to achieve the tasks at hand in the easiest way possible. First, I’d like to talk more about how I persevere to accomplish the tasks I am faced with that make me a great problem solver for the Marine Corps. I do this by pushing myself past my limits and past my breaking points and in doing so I make it farther than I normally thought wouldn’t be possible. It is the mindset I use both in the classroom and in athletics because when…

In the Doctor who episode “The beast below” we get more of an insight on who the doctor really is. In every episode the Doctor goes out of his way to save the human race, and asks for nothing in return, this shows that the doctor is very compassionate. I believe that they use the star whale in this episode to help represent the doctor. Both are the only ones left of their kind, and share many similar qualities, but the most importantly, just as the Doctor, the Star whale comes to help the people in the UK in their time of need, no matter how bad they treated him, or how dangerous it was. The Doctor is not human but he shares many of the same feelings we all have.…

Inspired by his struggles and the life of his son, author Brian Doyle wrote the short story “Joyas Voladoras” to share a message about emotions and the pain of love. He uses metaphors involving comparing the hearts of humans to other living organisms in order to communicate with the reader that all living things feel emotions. In “Joyas Voladoras,” Brian Doyle portrays the idea that every living thing has a heart, and no matter the size, they all have the ability to feel the pain of love. In this short story, the whales represent love and a connection between family members.…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…
