Personal Narrative Essay: Looking Back At The Harold Washington Library

I couldn’t hear the sneer drum in my headphones but as I closed my eyes I envisioned myself on the stage again. The heavy, soundproof double doors made me feel secure. I closed my eyes and felt as though I was still watching everyone in the live room. The sofas and the coffee table was where I sat to write songs quite often. Thirty-five feet square and fifteen feet tall, the live room had no soundproofing but there were microphones on floor stands, firmly fixed with pop shields and a headphone galore since there are no loud speakers. Recording music has always been a passion of mine, but it was never a feasible option because education was vital if I wanted to be successful in today’s rapidly moving society. However, this was my secret hideaway into the thoughts of myself. For years it has been stationed in the heart of downtown Chicago within the youth center at the Harold Washington Library. You can spot the tall library building no matter the seasons because it always had an old, edgy exterior look. Inside the library, YOUmedia was a place suited for my very own comfort and passion. On the inside, the walls captivate my dreams and aspirations that help me tell my life story. Throughout my years of high school, the YOUmedia recording studio allowed me to express myself while settling in with the realities that although I am “an owl” and “a butterfly.” I am inspired to function to the best of my ability, especially in school. However, the recording studio overall keeps me balanced in being both knowledgeable and naive to certain topics, which is why I am incorporating the owl and the butterfly.
