Personal Narrative Essay: How I Never Changed My Life

Good Essays
I was ten years old and Sadie, my sister, was thirteen year old. My mother used to be married to her father, making us half sisters. We both lived with our mom and my dad, however she went to her dad 's house every other weekend. Life was good as I knew it. My family was loving, caring, and seemed like any other happy family until my mother made one mistake that profoundly changed my life. “There’s a girl coming over that 's just about your age” my mom explained to me one weekend while my dad was out of town. I thought that was awesome, getting a chance to make a new friend. The girl, whose name was kayla, and her father, Jacob, entered our home. After a short greeting, Kayla and I were off playing with the many barbie dolls I had in my room while Jacob and my mom hung out in the living room. I came …show more content…
The court issued Sadie and I to live with our mother and on the weekends that Sadie visits her father I also would visit mine as well. My mother rented an apartment for the three of us to live in. A sense of excitement came when I found out there were cool features like a pool and workout room. After getting well settled into our new apartment my mom confirmed that her and Jacob were now dating. The weekends I wasn’t at my dad’s house I would spend hanging out with Kayla. A few months later, my father unexpectedly picked me up from my mother 's and took my things with me. “You’re coming to live with me now” he declared. On the weekends that Sadie and I were not at the apartment, with the help of Jacob, she began drinking and using drugs. In behalf of my young age, I was told that my mom just wasn 't stable enough. A year passed and my mother got better. I was able to visit my mother every Sunday afternoon as long as the visits were in a public place as well as supervised by an employee of child services. As of today, I may see her all day long on Sundays unsupervised wherever I would

It was a great day until my dad called my sister and told her to go check on our mom, they had just had a really big argument. Since I was only 8 they did not explain to me what was really going on. Later that day my other aunt, her daughter, my sister, and my mom picked me up and told me we were going to spend the night at my cousin’s new house. Only the night, turned into days, and days turned into months. Months I spent without seeing or talking to my dad and brother.…

Descriptions The situation I have been dealing with in the past and the present, is my parent’s divorce, which happened in December of 2013. The situation all began from my point of view when my dad had found on my mom’s phone messages from her to another guy. I was not living at home when this occurred, but my sister was and had told me, “dad left the house and I have no idea where he is.” My dad had told my mom, “to get a lawyer.” Because my dad had left the house and was staying at his sister’s house for several months, my mom was staying at the house on the farm with the two dogs. One day my mom and dad were having a normal, peaceful conversation together about the situation when all of a sudden the door bell rung and it was the RCMP.…

Interestingly, this process has been around since the beginning of man and is an essential part of being human. When I was a child, my family would have been considered a traditional family – my father worked, my mother stayed home with my older brother and me, we lived in a house and could pay our bills. The social hierarchy of my family was very complex – my mother usually had a say in everything and during the day I thought of her as the head of the household. However, when my father came home he was the head of the household. Around my 13th birthday, though, my family hierarch changed because my parents got divorced.…

I can’t thank my mom enough for all she’s done for me. She started out just like her mom and married her high school sweetheart, but just like my grandma it wasn’t the best choice. She had my three older siblings with him, but divorced after he cheated on her multiple times. A few years later she married my dad and had me and Riley. My dad was not Adventist and grew up in a very old fashioned family deep in the country of Missouri.…

On the contrary with Clarke, I played inside with my dolls and put on puppet shows (which I’m now afraid of by the way, puppets freak me out. Yikes!). According to Jean Piaget’s theory of preoperational thinking I understood that sometimes words represented things that weren’t necessarily present at the time, especially when Clarke and I put on puppet shows. My mother was the strict parent, while my Dad was a bit more easy-going. I remember one day my mother told me to clean up my room after Clarke and I had played in my room.…

Her mother was using her home language including some English words as she wasn’t fluent in English and I could understand her home language. In just few sessions I realise with mother’s involvement child is began to show her interest in selecting and using resources. Every month I used to invite one of her parent as per their convenience to show child’s portfolio and her…
