Physical Therapy: A Short Story

Superior Essays
How exciting life is right now. I have my whole life ahead of me, literally. I am a senior in high school with only a mere two weeks before graduation; I have great friends and good grades, and I couldn 't be more excited for what my future holds. I can’t wait to get into college and pursue a career in physical therapy. The funny thing is, I wouldn’t even been considering any of this if it weren’t for basketball and one of my best friends. When I was in eighth grade I couldn’t care less about school or what I was going to do after high school. I didn’t even plan on finishing school, once I was sixteen I was going to drop out. To this day I don’t understand why I didn’t want to finish high school, I was only in jr. high and yet I was completely …show more content…
She gave me that confused look again once she realized that I wasn’t kidding.
“How many papers do you have to do?” she asked. “I don’t know just a few I think.” I said as I looked through my bag looking for the folder I kept all my English papers in.
When I pulled it out Gabby’s eyes got wide, the folder was over an inch thick with blank worksheets in it. She looked at me with wide eyes, sighed, and said “Okay well you better get

None of them were hard, but Gabby sat there making sure I finished all my work. Of course, it took a couple days to get all of them done. Luckily, I finished all of the worksheets over that weekened and handed them in to my teacher. Thankfully my teacher was great and accepted the work and put it all in for full credit. Honestly, I think she was just glad to see I was starting to put some effort in. She got all the grades in that Monday and I was able to play in the game that week.
After seeing how easy it was to get that grade up and finish my work, I started completing all my assignments in that class. I even put forth more effort into some of my other classes as well. I believe I finished Language Arts with a B and Algebra with a C or B.
Since eighth grade I have put significantly better effort in all my classes. I have wanted to do better and get better grades and to never be afraid of not playing basketball again. Since then I have kept a 3.4 G.P.A. and continued to play basketball. My team even went to State my junior and senior year. I have enjoyed school a lot more since getting into high school, I like the classes more, but have always been a little lost in English classes since I didn’t pay attention in jr. high. Thanks to basketball, and some good friends, I can look forward to my life beyond high

It was a slow paced year where pressures such as ACT and SAT preparation, applying for colleges, and deciding your career path seemed so far away. As long as I remember, I have been on a never ending journey of discovering my talents and finding a career that would be most suitable for me to contribute to society. Thus, I was forced to do what every young man was supposed to do, man up and get thru the day, week, and year. I would cope with my unfortunate life at home by going to the library every day which caused me to excel in high school but had created a void in my life, making me into an anti-social kid who was naïve to the outside world. As I hit senior year of high school everything in my life seemed to fall apart and the only safe places I had were the gym and library at the time. I was 38 years old when I was suddenly struck with the realization that my status as a stay-at-home mom had transformed. Each day my two children were becoming more independent in their flights from the “nest” as they boarded the bus and headed off to intermediate school. I was astonished to realize the extent to which my children’s needs had changed on the home front. On the other hand, the family pets appeared to be very adept at taking advantage of this new opportunity to have me at their beck and call for the day. I recognized my need to help others so I responded to a help wanted ad for a physical therapy aide which turned out to be the first leg of my journey into the world of health care and a rewarding career of helping others.…

The grade that I received for my Macroeconomics class, ECON 1402, taught by Professor Ardavan Mobasheri in Spring 2016, is not reflective of the effort I put into the class and is the result of various issues regarding how the class strayed from the syllabus. I wish to request a grade change for the overall class. After passing my Microeconomics class in the Fall, I had hoped that I would do well in my Macroeconomics class the following semester. I received an F for the class which means that if I cannot receive a better grade, I will have to take it again in the fall semester of 2016 as it is required for my double-major in International Relations and Modern Languages. In terms of grading, we were graded based on four items: the midterm exam, the final exam, homework assignments, and class participation/attendance.…
