As I look up at the sky, which is blood red like the sun stabbed it so it could get away from its eternal partner,I begin to hear the horrible noises of these sky creatures. Their horrible squealing draws everything's attention because it sounds the an incantation to summon the devil from the pits of the underworld. The howling wind joins in trying to make the summoning happening quicker but instead it makes me feel like my ears are going to bleed and starts to cast a sleeping spell on anyone caught in this siren song. The trees become alive to this bewitching tunes as their rodent inhabitants begin to run around trying to attack one another like wolves attacking a deer. Next door the neighbor’s rowdy brats come outside, probably because this is their favorite tune, with their wild and atrocious dog to play game of run around and destroy the yard or as most call it fetch.…

I was at my grandmas when it happened so we decided the pigs should eat some grass and play in the sun for a while. “We should go outside,” Makayla said. We went outside and let the guinea pig’s in the tall green grass and then we sat on the trampoline. There is a small hill at my grandma's house so we walked over to it carrying both of the guinea pigs. When we got there we sat them down on the grass that was covering the hill, then we sat down in the dirt.…

In the vast plains of Montana, full of grass as green and bright as an emerald with a few drops of dew after a rainy day, with rolling hills that go on farther than the eye can see and an infinite clear baby blue sky above it all, there was a little red barn. It was old and rustic, completely different from the other cheery and bright cottages in the tiny town of Wicksdale. It’s paint peeled off the walls a little bit more every day. It creaked and groaned with the gusting winds that accompanied the hill it sat on. Nobody ever approached the Johnson barn.…

Mars Borges Literacy narrative My first comic I fell in love with was Baby Mouse— a sassy elementary schooler going through the ups and downs of early public education. She was funny, the stories were fun, but more importantly, I loved the look of the books. Every comic had a limited color palette of black, white, and pink, which I found to be the coolest thing. The speech bubbles were distinguished, the text had a unique font, the art was cute— sometimes I didn’t even need to read it, just looking through the book was so satisfying. Baby Mouse was the only comic I owned as a child, having a good 5 to 10 of those books.…
