Personal Narrative Essay: Growing Up In A Small Town

Superior Essays
Growing up in a small town was both a negative and positive thing. We never had anything to do so we would go places. My dad had a boat so we would go to West Point Lake every chance we got. I loved it and I always had so much fun, we would have picnics and go tubing all the time. One time, when I was about 7 years old, we took my whole family to the lake. I was so excited to show my cousins everything so when the boat stopped, I was the first one out. I HATED wearing those ugly water shoes so I chose not to wear them. Right when I stepped out, my foot started throbbing so I walked onto the shore and my foot was gushing blood from a bad cut. I screamed and my parents immediately took me to the ER and I had to get 4 stitches! I haven’t been …show more content…
I’m extremely independent. I can change the oil in my dad’s truck and fix something when it’s broken! I’m also very strong. I can pick stuff up and move it just as easy and fast as men can. Just because we’re women doesn’t mean anything. We can work on construction sites like men can, we can run big machines like men can and we can even serve in the military like men can! Why do boys get to have girls stay over but I can’t even have boys in room? It’s like since we’re able to get pregnant, we can’t even have a person of the opposite sex look at us! Don’t even get me started on dress code. Why is it that boys are allowed to wear shorter shorts and thinner shirt straps than I can? Is it because it’s a distraction? Seeing a boy in booty shorts is more of a distraction than seeing a girl with a tank top on because its 110 degrees outside! This is a very big topic for me and I love to talk about it but if I keep going, this paragraph is going to take up 4 more pages so I’m going to stop …show more content…
I go to church, I read my bible and I pray but I don’t spend every waking moment worrying or thinking about my religion. Ever since gay marriage was legalized, a lot has been going on between Christians and gays. Since I’m a Christian, everyone thinks is shouldn’t believe in gay marriage but I do. I believe that rule in the bible to be nice to everyone rules over being gay. I don’t see anything wrong with a woman and a woman or a man and a man loving each other. You can’t control who you’re attracted to or who you love. As long as they are happy, it’s fine. I think one of the big issues is that a believer in the bible can’t stand seeing someone happy by not following Christs’ words. That disgusts me honestly. There’s some people out in the world that world rather make one person’s life miserable because that person doesn’t believe in what they believe in than just worrying about themselves and letting everyone be

GROWING UP Growing up, I didn’t have many luxuries, if any. The best thing I had was being a 5 minute walk away from a convenience store. The house I grew up in was infested with cockroaches and was falling apart within the walls. The dining room was so small, some of us had to eat on the floor. We only had three bedrooms, so my three younger siblings had to sleep in the living room.…

As a young armadillo growing up in Texas during the 1820s, my life was peaceful and happy. The Federalists who held power in Mexico left me, my fellow armadillos, and the Anglo Americans alone to enjoy and work the land. However, in 1829, the Centralists gained control of the Mexican government and the freedom we enjoyed gradually eroded. As the Mexican government imposed more regulations on the Anglo Americans, the tension which had existed between the two groups due to the Nacogdoches land grant, become even more palpable.…

Growing up in a family that did not communicate that much, I was not very close with my mother of father. My mom and I did tend to talk more but not about personal things in our life. Me and my dad however always fought. I have a few good memories with him (he loved teaching me how to make home made biscuits.) which I always enjoyed on those rare occasions he was in a good mood. But, 90% of the time we were fighting.…

I was 13 years old, just starting off high school, when I realized what this dark cloud that’s been floating over me for the past couple of months really is. It wouldn’t be until more than a year later until I seek out professional help. It started off innocently enough as just a feeling of constant emptiness at the pit of my stomach. It slowly turned into randoms bouts of extreme rage, where I’d take out my anger physically, not just on the walls and mirrors of my childhood home and not just on my family, but on myself. I couldn’t understand why I felt this way, why I wasn’t “normal”.…

A few years ago like when I was 11 or 12 a lot of things were going through my mind of growing up and being a teenager. I knew this was going to be a big step for me and my surroundings, but I was ready for it. A thing that I always kept in my mind was turning 15 fast because my parents were always really strict with us. One of the things that they didn't let us do is put on makeup or paint our nails. I hated that because all my friends would do it and I was the only one that wasn't allowed to.…
