Narrative Essay
Every student is different and every student has their own story. I chose the prompt in which I would tell you about a story so central to my identity that my application would not be the same without it. However, this is a personal narrative, and I am supposed to be telling you about the real me. So, excuse me if I do not follow the prompt like I am supposed to. A story that I feel my application would not be complete without involves a treacherous journey through middle school and into the unknown depths of high school in order to find my true self and how I became the person who I am today: an insecure artist with a passion to share their art with the world along with survive the rest of highschool. Buckled up? Ready to go? Alright then.

The short story I chose to do my two-page application on is Two Kinds from Amy Tan ’s bestselling novel The Joy Luck Club. This short story within the book seemed particularly relevant not only because it is a sophisticated piece but it seems that Tan has gone through the process and achieves, in my opinion all of the goals of fiction as outlined by Minot in chapters 7-12 of The Genres. To begin with, the idea of reshaping fresh material, Tan does really well in this aspect as of Two Kinds, she was able to take a topic that was near to her, being an American born child of immigrants, as well as many specific aspects of her life growing up to life in a ficticious short story using the authenticity of personal experience.…

Narrative Essay It was at the beginning of my senior year when my counselor started urging my senior class to start thinking about what universities we wanted to apply to. Scarred for life As a kid in elementary I didn’t have many friends, wouldn’t exactly talk to a lot of people, and I was kind of the “lonely” type. I was in 5th grade from what I remember. Even though I was so quiet I expressed my personality to others with my work in art, where I absolutely loved to be! I pretty much hated music because the teacher would always put the other class in front of the one I was in, I’d always kick the girl’s seat in front of me and we pretty much hated each other. To find out our parents were best friends and so they brought us together and we became best friends.…
