Personal Narrative Essay: Deer Hunting

Improved Essays
In the fall of 2015, my dad Jason, my friend, Cody, and his dad Brad, and I, were deer hunting. Cody had a tag for a buck, and I had a tag for a doe. We had seen a buck and Cody was able to shoot at it, but he had missed. We had been out hunting a few times before, but we hadn't gotten anything yet. One day we were out all day and were just coming home. We came home a bit earlier that day so it was still light outside.

As we were driving home, Brad said,” Look there’s a badger!¨ He has super good eyes and he spotted it as we drove by so nobody had seen it except him. We flipped a U and pulled over on the side of the road. It was sitting in his hole with just his shoulders and head sticking out, about 20 yards off the road in a field. Since

We got out of the truck and I set up my gun. I shot it in the chest just below his right shoulder. It slumped into the hole. We walked up slowly and I had my gun out incase it wasn’t dead, but he was.We pulled it out of the hole and he was huge; at least 45 pounds.Since it was the beginning of winter, He was just starting to get a new, beautiful, thick winter coat.

We put it in the back of the truck and went home. On the way, Jason and Brad were calling around to try to find a taxidermist. We found one actually in Ucon where I was living at the time, in our neighborhood and took it to him. He was amazed at the size and said it was probably the biggest badger he had ever seen in his lifetime. He had a whole shed of stuff he was working on and stuff he had finished. There was a stuffed bear skins, wolf skins, badger skins, rattlesnake skins, stuffed birds and a whole bunch of other really cool stuff.

It took a few months, but I now have an awesome rug and its skull. I have it hanging up on my wall in my room and I have the skull on my dresser. It is super soft and its teeth and claws are huge. I chose to write about this because it was one of my favorite days and it is the biggest and coolest thing I’ve ever

I was beyond ecstatic and couldn’t believe we found him. Shortly after that incident, I was going through my closet and towards the very top, discovered an identical Woofie stuffed dog. I was appalled at what I found and without hesitation, brought it in the living room and asked my parents why there is a twin Woofie. This is when I first realized the immense love my parents had for me, and knew if anything happened to my toy, they would quickly have to fix the situation. To this day, Woofie sits upon a lamp in my bedroom reminding me of the large part he used to play in…

It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I’m not much of a morning person, so waking up can be a difficult challenge for me. Since it was just my first year of deer hunting, my dad had agreed to sit out in the stand with me just incase any trouble came about. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…
