Personal Narrative Essay: Buying A Dog

Have you ever been told by your parents that you are not responsible enough? My mothers’ favorite thing to do was to tell me I was not responsible. As being a kid, our favorite thing to do was to prove our parents wrong. What better way than to prove them wrong with buying your own dog? The responsibility that comes with a dog is greater than people realize. My mother was someone who loved to yell at you about random stuff. It would always end in her telling me how irresponsible I was. One day I decided to make a deal with her and Chris, my step dad. We were in my bedroom, which is in the basement, and they were both standing at the bottom of the stairs, my bed directly in front of them. We were all just having a casual conversation.
“I want a German Shepherd so bad.” I said to my mom and Chris.
Chris replied, “Yeah right, you would have to actually save money to afford the damn thing.”
“I easily could afford a dog if I wanted to.” I said while rolling my eyes, and with attitude in my tone.

My parents and I switch off buying dog food. She has finished her puppy vaccines now, but still needs to get spayed. I take her to the dog park 3 days a week, and she has puppy play dates, with the new friends she has made there. Responsibility kicks in a lot harder when you have a living being on the line. My mother since then has told me how proud she is of me for constantly taking care of my dog. People would not realize also how much time goes into being responsible for a dog. They can not be locked up all day. Deja is one of the greatest things to happen to me. She has also taught me how to save tremendous amounts of money. I currently have a saving account for emergencies for her incase anything bad happens. Responsibility is something that has come to a whole new meaning with Deja. It’s a different kind of responsibility than taking care of chores, or

I hear the loud, rough sound of the door opening, as I enter my soft, green house. Today at school had simply been horrific. My alarm hadn’t gone off this morning and everyone was in such a glorious mood when I arrived to the all too familiar building (note the sarcasm). Suddenly I hear the all too familiar jingle of the tags on my dog, buddy’s, collar. Setting down my black and white bag with a sigh, I trudge to the back of the house where he is.…

I love my dog so much, what thought when my mother said “it would be obliged to put him down” , but something happened, at just the right time. First things first, I have this dog named Bailey, he is a Shih Tzu/ Yorkie/Chihuahua mix, our little man is 14 years couple weeks ago, he would barely eat, yet alone move period. 2 weeks ago, my mother sat me down and basically told me she think’s it’s time to terminate his suffering. About a week ago, my parents and I set off to the vet, to make the suffering subside for my loved one, although for some reason he seemed absolutely energetic, all the while, waiting for the veterinarian, which was a blessing in disguise While my mom was sorrowing, my dad and me held our tears down, while playing…

When I was little, I would always drag my mom into the pet store. I loved pressing my face up against the glass and watching the cute little golden retriever or the labrador puppies playing. If I was really lucky, my mom would let me go to the little rooms where you can play with them. I would pick my favorite one, the cutest one, and Jane, my mom and I would play with him or her. I always gave the puppy a name, and when it was time to go, I would beg her to let me keep it.…

When I was ten years of in the summer of 2008, my Mom, Dad, brother, and I all drove to a farm out in the middle of nowhere to check out some puppies we saw on craigslist. When we arrived, I saw a grassy field with 5 dogs on it, and trees covering the perimeter. The dad of all the puppies was watching over like an ancient guardian, he was pretty intense, he was a massive brown Labrador, that didn’t move around much because of his old age; the farmer that owned them told me that the dad was 12. Not wanting my eventual dog in the first place, I remember that I didn’t think that he was hyper enough, and I wanted a puppy that would keep up with me. Mine, or anyone else's opinion did not matter in the situation though, Mom wanted that particular…

What my dog has taught me Humans are basically social animals, and in learning to coexist more peacefully, our pets could teach us a thing or two. Humans are sometimes arrogant enough to believe that our lives matter more than others, but in owning a dog it 's clear to see why it doesn 't. I know some people consider their pets as a part of their families. I strongly agree with that stance towards the dog I have in my home. Having been a dog owner since the age of nine, I can claim that a lot of growing and maturing goes on during that timeframe. Pets have this ability to teach people things that even humans cannot.…
