Personal Narrative Essay: Baseball Diamonds

“Kick the ball loser!” I vaguely heard from across the field.
I had just won a successful round of wood chips on the main playground just around the front of the school. We fifth graders received extra recess time come the end of the school year, considering we would be heading off to middle school soon. My friends and I ran down to the baseball diamond, mainly used for kickball or drawing in the dusty sand with our fingers. I was so petite compared to the other fifth graders, that I couldn't see above everybody. All I could hear was two faintly familiar voices, barely apprehendable above the constant chanting of kids crowded around them. I inched my way through the crowd, pushing to get to the front, and got close enough to see what all

When we arrived, the principal asked to see Jack and John first, and she told me that she would talk to me after them. I was truly terrified to the point where my teeth were indeed chattering.
After about 15 minutes, both boys walked out. John strolled over towards me, and sat down. Jack marched right past us and disappeared down the hall. My principal eventually came out as well, and told me that I was free to go.
“What happened?” I asked, as John and I walked back to class.
“He has detention for a week.” John said. “He owned up to everything he did to me, and apologized without being asked.”
“What did he say about me?” I begged.
“He told her that all you did was tell him to stop beating myself up” John told me.
I was puzzled as to why he didn’t tell her what really happened, until it came across me. The first thought to come to my mind was the Ying-Yang sign. The “Yin” part of the sign represents that in all darkness, there is some light. After everything that Jack did, he found some reason to redeem himself. I don’t think that I will ever fully forgive Jack for what he did, and I don’t know if something like this will ever occur again, but no matter how much darkness someone has, everyone deserves the chance to shine their

The story of Cass Mastern in Robert Penn Warren’s All the King’s Men, plays a very interesting role in the novel. At first, it was unclear to me as to why the story was included in the novel—other than serving as the subject matter which Jack was exploring for his Doctoral dissertation. After reading this passage over several times, I realized that Cass’s story was significant because his demeanor—or rather, his shame and guilt—bears a jarring resemblance to Jack’s. Additionally, I was a bit confused as to why Jack would quit pursuing his Ph.D. because of this story.…

In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, conflict - both internal and external - portrays a major development in the theme and plot of the young boys in this novel. On an island composed of only pre-adolescent boys, it is unquestionable that there would be conflict amongst them. Golding blatantly shows the reader the external conflicts that occur between one another, including both physical and verbal altercations. The author also cryptically gives the reader a display of the conflict the boys struggle with within themselves and their own thoughts. Despite the many instances of external conflict, the subtle internal conflicts are much more critical to the plot and overall theme of Lord of the Flies.…

Case Study-Jack • Do you think that Jack’s current unwillingness to become vulnerable to others out of his fear of “being dependent on them and trapped by their love” has much to do with his mother’s unconditional love? Although we don’t have much information about Jack’s early years, his difficulty establishing intimate relationships would point to issues at the oral stage by Freud’s interpretation. I think Jack’s relationship issues stem from his relationships with both of his parents.…

When society breaks down, death and destruction incur. In the book The Lord Of The Flies by William Golding the effects of the breakdown of society is a major theme. Humans identities are formed when society’s rules and laws are non existent, and humans are forced to rely off of their own morals. This can be seen when Ralph’s tribe is demolished by Jack because of Jack 's different ideology . In addition, Piggy’s logic and intelligence when talking about advanced topics on the island also show how identity is formed through a lack of societal laws.…

Fairytales and folklore have been told for thousands of years to entertain and to teach. However, the roots behind these make-believe stories are not always so innocent. In the fairytale Jack and the Beanstalk, some people may argue that Jack is only a young boy who is trying to provide for his family. In reality, Jack is a thief and a killer who shows no remorse because of his greed for money and desire to be accepted by his mother. Jack stole from the Giant multiple times, blindly robbed and killed in an attempt to earn his mother’s love and manipulated situations for his own gain – all without feeling any guilt or regret.…

Desire and Desperation for Self-Recreation Almost every teenager feels the need to prove their worth during their adolescent years. This may occur due to peer pressure at school, or to a grandparent, who is usually heard talking about “back in the day”, or most popularly, to parents who always praise an overshadowing sibling. Sometimes, this need spills over into the adult life, where a husband may feel as if he’s constantly trying to impress his parents-in-law. If it were possible, in any way, for any of the above to re-create themselves as perfect in theirs or other’s eyes, they probably would.…
