Personal Narrative Essay: The Highway Versus The Road

Superior Essays
I would have never thought that I was going to take the highway that day and I learned some valuable pointers alongside. I have always been fascinated by highways, as they would cause me to become languid and at peace. I would enjoy watching the extensive, country roads outside of the backseat window like a little girl. I expect a deer, for some reason, to hop out from the tremendous, towering trees that were greener than the grass it occupied. In addition, I enjoyed watching all of the other vehicles pass us by as if we were flying in a jet on a mucky, bright, clear day. My father told me once that he was going to help me practice taking the highway one day. He would always tell me how safe it is to take the highway versus the road and that all I have to agonize about is the vehicles in front of me. I failed to believe him as I was too attached on the fact that there are multiple lanes and you are traveling approximately sixty-five miles per hour …show more content…
I had never taken the highway to any city. I have been to Middletown, Fairfield, and Mason, all which are cities in the state of Ohio, and I had never once thought twice about traveling on a highway to get there. I was comfortable taking the road to any destination as long as it was manageable. In addition to that, I never knew my way around another city other than my hometown, which in fact will make me an specialist at cell phone GPS’s. I technically had no other choice unless I preferred to get lost.

I was feeling courageous and assertive which is typical. No one was in the car with me, so it was a perfect opportunity for my truck and me. I didn’t tell my parents I was ‘thinking twice’ about the highway because I wanted to wait until I surpassed the test and could surprise them. I adapted my phone’s GPS in order to take the high way to Huber Heights. I embraced myself and the next thing I know, I’m doing a modest curve onto the highway

I've always heard that drivers should practice "defensive driving. " It makes sense, we all know how big a car is and how fast it can go, you can find all of those numbers somewhere on the car itself. We all know someone who has been in an accident, be it minor or major. When cars collide, it can be catastrophic and everyone knows it well. But somehow, at least for me, the idea of it actually all being real didn't happen until I had gotten into an accident where I was forced to deal with the consequences of even a minor collision.…

Louv wanted to convey the importance of riding in the car's backseat. He created an unforgettable nostalgic emotion: "This was the landscape that we watched as children. It was our drive-by movie.” Car rides were the way for children to learn about nature and themselves; they correlated nature to man-made architecture among their journies.))))The view of the natural world and life zooming by as their "drive-by movie" was ironic--a comparison to the literal movies kids these days watch on road trips. Parents reflected on their pure childhood moments that are fulfilled by nature and realized their children do not share similar experiences.))))Louv ended the passage with the powerful statement to leave the audience impassioned: “We considered the past and dreamed of the future, and watched it all go by in the blink of an eye.”…

It was a very nice summer evening, the sun was just starting to set behind us as I drove down the highway. Without a worry, the music was blaring and there was a lot of singing and laughing going on in the car. Three of my friends and I were on our way to a movie in Spirit Lake, when the trip took an unexpected turn. Now, instead of going to the movie, I was going to have to go to court. I quickly pulled to the side of the road and rolled down my window for the man that was standing there.…
