Personal Narrative Essay About Soccer

By the time I sprinted onto the field for the start of the Jefferson Cup soccer final I had mentally prepared myself for the fierce showdown ahead. I had been playing soccer for most of my short life, giving up all other sports to concentrate on being a top player. In fact my whole family was committed to the game, so I guess you could say that I eat, sleep, and breathe soccer. I sure hoped that all my hard work would be translated into a big win that day. As I readied myself for the refs whistle to announce the start of the game, the hair on my neck stood straight up, and the adrenaline rushed through my body, filling every vein and artery. Transformed from a 12 year-old-girl into a soccer warrior ready for the battle ahead, I told myself; keep your goals simple: get to the ball first, win all your one v. ones, pass the ball accurately and communicate with your teammates. …show more content…
I have to be able to place a pass right on the foot of a teammate to set up a goal. That day was no different from any other. As my foot made contact with that beautiful, glossy soccer ball for the first time that day, it seemed to know that it had no choice but to obey my direction as it subserviently rolled to its destination. Suddenly out of nowhere, a bone-jarring blow from behind left my body limp and lifeless on the field. I lay there in a dreamlike state for what seemed like an eternity before mustering enough strength to get myself to my feet again. I opened my eyes and squinted up into the bright sunlight. My head was swimming and it felt like it was ready to explode. I didn’t know what day it was or where I was for a few minutes.

With an expressive hiss the door slid open. The cold, moist weather sprinted in the door painting goose bumps over every inch of our bodies. To stay warm, we had to keep any unprotected skin tucked away from the harsh October weather. The Sartell Varsity Soccer Team and I slowly inched our way off the bus in an attempt to stay as long as possible in the warmth. Taking my first step onto the wet cement sidewalk, I was battered with frigid snow and strong winds.…

The majority of my lacrosse career depended upon my natural talent. With little work, I could coast and still outclass the majority of my teammates. That is, I could until I was pushed onto varsity as a sophomore. Instead of getting the steady playing time I expected, I was only permitted to enter the game when things got out out hand. Frustrated, I asked my father what I could do to earn a reliable spot on the field, and he told me that if I augmented talent with practice and outworked the rest of my teammates, there would be no reason for Coach to keep me off the field.…

“Hi Malcolm, I’m Coach Spear, and I’d like you to consider playing soccer at Davidson.” I had played the “beautiful” game of soccer for as long as I could remember, starting in an organized league at the age of three to be exact. An invitation to play as a team member in a highly regarded college soccer program was the culmination of hundreds of league games, dozens of travel tournaments, and too many practices to count. The idea of attending such a prestigious college and having the opportunity to continue to play soccer is a personal accomplishment was very exciting to me. Soccer may have opened a door, but I believe that several interests in addition to soccer, combined with the educational opportunities that Davidson has to offer, will help me open many doors throughout life, shaping a personal identity that will be unique among many.…

Without soccer, I would not know how to tell my story. I didn't have much free time for soccer teams when I was young because I had to take care of my 5 younger brothers when my mom wasnt home. But in sixth grade our neighborhood was full of Latinos that loved soccer, so that is how I started to become more passionate about it. Our neighborhood did not have a nice field. It didn't have goals or markings, it was pretty much dirt and grass.…

Ever since I was 8 years old, I dreamed of making it onto a girl’s college soccer team. Every year, I would work my hardest to improve my skills to try out for my high school's girls’ soccer team. Coming from a household with only a mother to support me, I knew that I had to work my hardest to not only be the best, but to get the scholarship that would support me for the rest of the way. Little did I know that one simple snap could change everything. On a balmy Saturday afternoon in May of 2014, I was preparing to do the usual soccer game with my co-ed recreation team.…

The daily stresses of my life do not evaporate with time. They linger and unless they're emitted like any other emotion, they fester and grow like a virus. With each passing moment, the growing frustrations of my days dissolve into my pure and rational bloodstream. The red makes a slow transition into a dark black, as if a chemical reaction has occurred. The infected blood cells metastasize and circulate, feeding on the healthy tissue as it ventures throughout my body.…

Soccer isn't just sport. It’s a lifestyle. Without soccer, I don't know where I would be today. The freshly mowed green grass underneath my cleats, the earthy smell of the dirt filling my nose, the pure, clean air all around engulfs me in its embrace. The sun rising in the horizon, our parents cheering on the sidelines, the blow of a whistle.…

The roar of the engine sends my heart racing as I pull out on to the track, one lap around and we are off, trucks at my side as we glide around the turns. The slick dirt pulling my back end around I move my hands, my automatic controls, the only thing keeping me from spinning out. It’s funny really because clichés aren’t my thing, however, at times idioms are just the thing to describe a situation or time period in one’s life, for instance the saying that “life is a roller coaster” couldn’t be more fitting for my life. The ups and downs, the highs and the lows, the twists and turns, life is just one big adrenaline rush and at times I feel I’m a junking, addicted to life.…
