Small white snowflakes fell upon the plane as we descended through the clouds to land on a snowy runway in Colorado Springs. We were hit by a cold wind coming from the north as we step out from the cozy warmth of the plane and into the vehicle. We are now off heading towards my cabin in the snowy mountains for the best skiing adventure ever.
We had Sam, an ex-marine, driving our snow covered S.U.V up the hill with chains clanging on the asphalt, and the tire spinning at points on the mountain as we drove through the night. I was in the front passenger seat squinty ahead to make sure we do not drift off the road. Michael

Michael is cooking breakfast for us four while Sam is preparing out snow gear, like we were going to war, for this afternoon snow skiing. I am only half awake when the smoke detector start buzzing off causing me to freak out. I turn around and see the Michael had turned the juicy bacon into a very burnt crisps stick. As we ate our breakfast, that is partially burned, we saw the outside was like a winter wonderland with the sun shining down on the perfect white layer of snow. Our snow boards and gear are ready and we head to the helicopter that would take to the top of the snow mountain. We sat on the edge of the helicopter with helmets, gloves, snow jackets, and snow boards on our feet. Wind was whipping through the air and the helicopter was shaking as we approach the top. I wait in fear until the avalanche descends down the

The snowflakes fell delicately on the freezer like floor, making perfectly good snow for a snowman. Every step I took left a crisp footprint in the snow, as if I was the only person to step outside. The air whistled deep and painful, which caused my skin to sting and eyes to water. My fingers and toes felt numb, however it was a nice sensation when bundled up in a cocoon of vests, jackets, and thermal wear. Lastly, the giant urge to which I dug my frozen fingers into the wet plethora of white and throw a snowball at my dad, squaring him right in the…

The edges of my skis slice across the freshly groomed trails while my poles force thrust back propelling my body over and past a steep hill. I continuously repeat this motion hundreds of times, so many that it feels woven into my fabric of a person. The numb fingers, frozen eyelashes and aching muscles from cross-country skiing over the years become routine for how I spend my winters. However the lessons learned from this sport extend past the practices.…

I put my truck into park and turned the key and the low hum of my truck died. I glanced outside my front window of my truck at the vast seemingly never ending expanse of snowy grass prairie. The seat next to me sat my dog Bud who was already starting to whine at excitement of the land in front of us. It was a cold day, low 20s and wind gusts of 30 mph. Small snowflakes flew through the sky.…

All that we heard from behind us was the constant boom of the shotguns being fired. I could feel the burning in my lungs of the frigid winter air as me and my friend, Jeremy, were running to the car in the black of night.
