Every hockey player’s goal is to make it here. All the hours spent in to make it. Practicing everything; edgework, your shot, your speed, your strength. Your work on comes into this one spot. Three days of straight grinding. He’s testing your speed, your IQ, your skating, your hands, and your shot. 45 kids looking for a spot. But only 17 will succeed. They all want V-squad. They all say “Oh good luck. Hope you make it!”. They don’t mean it. They want the spot for their own. They will not share it with anyone else. They all do almost anything they can to get it. All just to be 1 of 17. I went for it too. All day trying to beat out everyone. Out-skating the upper classmen in conditioning. Stopping all the 2 on 1’s. Scoring on the goalie every …show more content…
We went around the circles doing crossovers and skating backwards. It was clockwork. I was up in the front three on my side with Trevor Gray and Adam Peterson. The only thing we weren’t matched in was backwards. It was my life. I can do that in my sleep. Peterson on the other hand. For some reason doesn’t know how to do them after all the years he’s played hockey.
Day 2 was skating with pucks. It was the same thing as the day before but with pucks. Yet again, it’s clockwork. I flew through this day. So did everyone who flew with the first day. I could tell it would be a tight race. There was 4 defensemen on the team already. It was Nick Gray, Trevor Gray, Holden Edwards, and my brother Jack. Coach only carries 5 defensemen, but one of our starters was hurt, which was why holden was back there. Only one spot was open.
Day 3 was drills. This is where I started to slip. I had the speed and the passing, but my shot wasn’t that good. It was slow and not that accurate. All the drills we had to do I had to shoot in. After Practice, we normally had dryland. Where we had run 2 laps and that would be it. It was really easy for everyone except our goalies. They are big and slow. We didn’t have dyland on the 3rd day. It was roster day. Coach called us in and he announced the roster. I was waiting for more. I was waiting for my

When I was 15, I was cut first round at High Performance Minnesota tryouts. High Performance is the tryout program that eventually selects the best players in the country to play on the USA U18 National Team. When there is no NHL to look forward too as a woman, I strived to play college hockey and represent the United States of America at the national level. This cut was devastating, it ended many of my friends’ hockey careers, but it only pushed me to improve. Every practice and every game I played was my fullest effort to out work every player in Minnesota.…

My domination of easily breezing by my neighbors in street hockey and always ranked at the top of stat sheets for scoring in recreational hockey, abruptly ended when I joined my first competitive travel hockey team. My first game exemplified the setbacks my fear imposed on my team when I frighteningly moved out of the way of an enormous player to grant him a free pass to the net in which he scored the game winning goal. Shamefully looking at me as if I were an ally of the other team, I became alienated after my team after they began the tradition of…

I’ve been playing the incredible sport of Ice Hockey for over 10 years now. Although it has become steadily easier, and more about sharpening skills than developing them, in the beginning it was extremely difficult. The progress I have made since when I first began playing is immeasurable. I have come as far as I have in hockey through all the years of support from my father, because he’s always been happy to watch me play competitively.…

I was terrified. I would try my hardest to get a good spot on the team by copying what the other girls did. But then I found out that I needed to do the things my coach said and forget what the other girls were doing and focus on what I was doing in my own way and that i needed to pay attention of how I was playing and concentrate on how all the girls passed the puck and that I needed to start being more confident of I play. Hockey has taught me that anything is possible and that I just need to make goals to accomplish them. At first when I started out playing hockey, I had a goal that I learn to do a crossover in two weeks.…

All the other girls were taller than me so it was hard to get threw…

Ice hockey is a very good example of this in how much talent it takes to skate and control a puck all at the same time. This talent shows the athletes ability to multitask which many people may think is easy but in most cases is proven other…
