Personal Narrative: My Trip To Montana

Last minute trips with the girls seem to always be fun, especially going somewhere I have never been before. My cousin Grace wanted to travel to Flathead Lake in Montana. she saw this lake on Instagram. The internet said that supposedly this lake is found to be one of the largest natural freshwater lakes that exists west of the Mississippi river. So my mom, grandma, cousin Grace, Aunt Sarah, and I packed our luggage into the car and left for a vacation with no plans and nowhere booked to stay. I think the exciting part about the trip was knowing we were going somewhere we had never been before. It was also thrilling to not have already planned where to stay. The trip acted as an exciting mystery, especially going with my grandma and Grace that I do not see often.

Being in the mountains now meant that the roads were getting to be more rugged, and because of this, my grandma persisted that she ride in the far back with all the luggage because the cliffs did not make her feel good. That was one of her fears growing up that she told us about earlier on in our trip. By remembering this, Grace and I thought that it would be very funny if we played a joke on her, so we told her our tires were so close to the edge of the cliff, that we were going to fall. We tried to make her look up, but she kept her head in the pillow. When she did, she wasn’t happy with us because she had a traumatic event that happened to her before while driving in the mountains before us grandkids were born. Even with the jokes, she still admired the pretty mountains when she would look up from her pillow. After the joke was played we had an hour remaining of our trip. During the remaining hour of the road trip we were getting very antsy to get there. We would not wait to see one of the prettiest lakes in the United

With the windows down, the crisp, cool summer air permeated throughout my body, acquiring every hair to stand at attention. Buffalo surrounded and granged lazily through the corn fields that shot high to the sky, as if every row was assembled soldiers getting ready to march. South Dakota is known for open fields with a consumed, laid back lifestyle with not much ever going on. Going into the trip knowing this, I was not in the least bit excited. It was when I absorbed the laid back atmosphere and appreciated every single bit of their way of life.…

I was driving down Montana 28. Legally Blonde was blaring through my speakers as I looked at the beautiful scenery. I was only 2 hours from Glacier National Park, which sounded like nothing after my grueling 10 hours leading up to that point. Suddenly my car slowed to a stop. I couldn’t go above 3 mph.…

The Great Smoky Mountains I had never smelt the mountains before. When I was planning my trip everyone who had been there before said, “Oh, that smell! You’ll never forget it!”. I always knew it would be an unforgettable trip I just never thought I would crave the mountains afterwards. I can still feel the cool, crisp air that I inhaled when I walked to the porch to watch the sunrise.…

Your peripheral vision is gone—there’s complete focus, then a silence so muted that all you know is the feeling of your heart beating. Then, as you stand there motionless, you feel the adrenaline. I mean really feel it—a syrup coursing through your veins, yet not a syrup as it moves faster than blood. You know when it hits your heart because it starts beating faster, faster, faster, and then the feeling is gone. Then everything is gone—emotions, breath, sensation……

It all began at the base of that hill. There I stood, unabashed by the ever-tensening knot in the bottom of my stomach. The epitome of all of my fears stared me down as i stood in the shadow of that majestic, towering, powerful mountain. The immense winter wind shook me to my core. In the Alps, there was no freedom from shivering.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

In January of last year I went on a trip to Colorado on a "college visit" with a friend and my father to University of Colorado Boulder. We left Wednesday night, skipping school both Thursday and Friday. We did go to the college and took a tour of the campus on Thursday which I greatly enjoyed, it is beautiful out there and at elevation there is very little humidity. The true intention of the trip, as important as the college visit was, was to go to Breckenridge Resort and spend the weekend snowboarding. A couple of my dad's friends were also going and we were going to share their timeshare.…

Ever since I was a little girl I have fantasized about living in South Dakota. I don’t know necessarily what appealed to me about living there, but it was always my dream. Maybe it was the idea of green grass swaying in the wind, or buffaloes freely roaming around. Being a small town girl, I’ve always been looking for a change. When my family took a vacation to South Dakota, that was what it took to confirm my dream.…
