Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To The Beach

It started off as just another typical trip to the beach, but little did I know that after this my opinion of the beach and everything associated with it would be completely altered. It was a thunderstorm to remember, I still remember it to this day and it was over ten years ago. I had never felt so small and powerless until the trip to the Outer Banks, where I had truly discovered the real power of nature. Our family for the past couple years, had taken trips to multiple different beaches, the only thing that was the same was the people who went. They were always exciting because all the cousins would go and the general atmosphere of having everyone there was the best. This year the beach of choice was the Outer Banks, off the coast of North Carolina. At the time we were living in Maryland, so the drive was about six hours and since my brother and I were getting older it was easy for my parents to do trips further away from home because we wouldn’t be so antsy in the car. There was so much build up for this trip. I would be going into a state I had never been too before and it was the end of the school year. Everything was just lining up perfect. Waking up kind of early because the adults want as much time on the beach as possible but it doesn’t matter just like them, us kids can’t wait to go play in the messy sand and the salty water. We get though breakfast and lunch, no problems. It is when it starts to get later in the day is when the clouds start developing but young me just thinks the clouds getting darker is because the day is ending, not that a storm is brewing.
