Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To The Beach

Improved Essays
It started off as just another typical trip to the beach, but little did I know that after this my opinion of the beach and everything associated with it would be completely altered. It was a thunderstorm to remember, I still remember it to this day and it was over ten years ago. I had never felt so small and powerless until the trip to the Outer Banks, where I had truly discovered the real power of nature. Our family for the past couple years, had taken trips to multiple different beaches, the only thing that was the same was the people who went. I was only about seven years old at the time and didn’t really understand the power of a thunderstorm. I knew …show more content…

We get though breakfast and lunch, no problems. It is when it starts to get later in the day is when the clouds start developing but young me just thinks the clouds getting darker is because the day is ending, not that a storm is brewing. Everyone is showering, washing off all the sand and getting ready to go to dinner. The rain didn’t start until we were leaving from dinner but still, I hardly paid attention to what was actually

Time is constant, it will always be moving forward. Making the hour and a half long drive to the beach does not seem so bad now but as a kid it seemed like an everlasting eternity in the backseat. At least, that’s the way I remember my families trips to the beach. I especially loved our Pismo camping trips because we would always leave on Fridays to beat the traffic and I would never have to go to school that day. I was nine years old turning ten this weekend and I was extremely excited.…

However, once my family and I departed off the ferry we all laughed and made jokes about the day. The car ride home was comical as we all made fun of the fact that we were literally stranded on an island all day long. It wasn’t until the next day that were able to see our trip to the beach in a completely different perspective. Instead of seeing our trip to Caladesi Island as a bad experience, we realized it gave us time to bond with each other transforming our view of the experience. All the time we spent at the island we were stuck in a close pack and shared jokes and stories together, something we haven’t done in forever.…

With my girlfriend living so close I made it through the school year without having to ride the bus and I always had a ride when we wanted to go places. I soon began to lose all interest in driving, which at one time had been one of my favorite things in life. It was not until I started work for the summer that it set in that I would soon need to start driving again. I had applied at a marina in Deltaville Virginia near my grandpa’s house and was hired on the spot. I have always loved the water and wanted to get away from the busy city for the summer but I soon came to realize that not having a car and the fear of driving was ruining my work plans.…
