My mother, brother and I arrive in the Atlantic City airport after a surprisingly short two hour flight. After dawdling away time by alternating between electronic games and magazine scavenger hunts, or sleeping (in my mother’s case), we were ready to see our timeshare hotel suite. Our destination a half hour away, we climbed into a traditional cab. Our driver provided unintended humor with his strong Jamaican accent. Mom made small talk, inquiring about the city: where to eat, what to do, etc.…

It was the winter of 1933, I lived in a small house just big enough for me and my family. It's located in Portland Oregon, a beautiful town living in the Great Depression. Our house always smells of smoke from the burning of wood and coals we use to keep warm. The smoke of the fire flies over our house and goes with the wind and gust of snow. From the time I was little my mom knew I would be a hard worker.…

My Trip to Washington, D.C One of my very favorite places in Americas is a city rich in history and is absolutely stunning, Washington DC is my favorite city. I've been there several times this year and every time I go back I fall in love with it, so I plan on living there when I'm done with my education and starting a career there. My least favorite part of going to DC is the traveling. My favorite part of dc is the vibe while you're there and seeing all the sights. While traveling, this is usually how it goes; I start by rushing to the airport since I leave packing until the last minute and while standing in the TSA screening lines I hear "Passengers with the last name Vasquez please come to the check in desk, to board the plane" The panic…

The Plane Ride When I was nine my family started a move from the tranquil suburbs of San Jose, California to the desert city of Windhoek, Namibia, located in southern Africa. My parents were taking myself, along with my younger sister and brother, around the globe because they felt a calling from God to be missionaries. All of our possessions were sold off, including my much beloved toys, until everything we had could fit into eight large suitcases. These suitcases are what we carried to the airport as we prepared for our journey. I felt no small amount of apprehension and excitement in what lay ahead of me in the new country, but an event I would experience in the coming flight would forever change and shape my perspective of how I see the…
