Personal Narrative Essay: A Trip To Dodge City

Improved Essays
I was on a trip to Dodge City for a baseball tournament. It wasn’t a long trip in my mind, most of the baseball players stayed in the same hotel called the Dodge House. It’s a really nice hotel it doesn’t look like on the outside, but wait till you go inside. In the center of the hotel it’s a big open space, it has a half court basketball, has volleyball, it even has arcade games to play, but they cost money to play, it has a weight room, it has a hot tud and a pool with two slides and has a place for seating to have a little party it’s fun I recommend this place if you ever go to Dodge City. so we got there and I was the first kid from my team there, so I just started to shoot hoops. Then my teammates started to show up after a bit, so they just joined me till we had to go to bed for the games tomorrow. The next morning was game time and I was ready to play. The first team we play was our biggest competitor in the …show more content…
We played the worst we have ever played, we couldn’t do anything. Our coach was not happy, he said things like “Where's the intensity we had yesterday.” said coach. The game was bad we only got 1 run in, we could not play. “We better not play as bad as we did in the last game.” coach said and we all agreed that we played the worst we have ever played, we had kids pitching that have never pitched before, that's how bad we played. We played the same 2 teams we played the day before. We started the game out the same way we did in the first game, we sucked. They were beating us, like in the third ening we finally got some runs in, we started to play some real baseball then. In like the 5th ending coach ran out of pitchers, coach used me in the first game but I didn’t pitch that much in the first game. So asked me if I would pitch again and I did said “Yeah sure”. My first few pitches were not that good, then they started to get

It was our turn to go back out in the field. We got through the inning without them scoring and headed back into hit. We did not have any luck with our bats during the second inning. The score was two to zero for us. As I went out to play defense I knew the other coach was going to try and make something happen.…

We started Jack Foster on the mound, but, it didn’t go as planned. They started hitting bombs off him and scored five runs in the first inning. My heart sank after that and most of the team had lost hope. Our coach asked if after all we have done were we going to give up just like that. I remember us fighting back into the game.…

It is very hard to keep their confidence up at the plate with an inconsistent strike zone, it is almost impossible to give them any confidence with a strike zone almost double in size of what it should be. While this statement is troubling, it is far from the worst of the afternoon. There was a questionable call made on a bunt down first base line. One of those calls that could have gone either way. Our fans got rowdy, which they do from time to time, it is going to happen.…

Our leadoff hitter had a leadoff double, but was then picked off right away. The next two batters weren’t a threat either. The Oklahoma Elite managed to sneak across a run in the bottom of the second. We didn’t want them to catch back up so we decided to kick it in gear. The rest of the game we remained in the driver’s seat.…

As I was, once again, sitting on the bench watching my fellow teammates play baseball against another team. I thought to myself, I loved playing football and wrestling, all of my experiences during those seasons were awesome... and then came baseball season. The only sport which I have grown to hate. As I continued to think I began to realize the head coach completely destroyed my love for baseball. I am like a son to my football and wrestling coaches.…

The Midwest is home to states with rich cultural backgrounds and popular tourist attractions. To take a break from the busy schedule I have as a student, and to avoid writing more essays like this, I went on a vacation to Michigan with my mother and two siblings. We visited South Haven, a pleasant port city on Lake Michigan’s east coast, and Detroit, the famous largest city in Michigan. These areas interest me because there’s plenty to do; there are amazing restaurants, breath-taking scenery, and family-friendly, inexpensive entertainment. South Haven is famed for its relaxed atmosphere and homely feel.…

The last inning, we started to fall apart, but we never gave up. No matter what happened we were going to have fun because it was our last time with the amazing coach we had and the last time we would see each other till high school. I think think that this is what helped us win the game because if you don't have a good attitude, things never turn out as you hope they would. But we played our hardest to the end and won that game.…

Both teams had seasoned veterans and both looked relaxed and loose. And once again it showed in warmups, neither team looked better than the other with both having an excellent final tuneup before the game began. The teams seemed to have forgot their great warm up becausegame got off to a slow start with the pitchers holding both teams in check with no runs for either side in the first two frames of action. Then in the top of the third Texas broke the game wide open with three runs to take the lead.…

If there was one thing I was used to by now, it was that whenever something didn’t go well for me on the baseball field, the future holds green pastures only if I go looking for it. So sure enough, after that loss, I set my eyes ahead to the next season. That final season we had a great start, winning a lot of games, but we ended up barely making the playoff as somewhat of an underdog. We didn’t think about anything that was at stake, we simply played our game all the way to the championship game without a loss in the playoffs. We won the first game of he series and were winning for the majority of the second game.…

So we prayed and the game started and we played nervously. My captain, Melissa dribbled down the court, looked to pass, and took the shot but missed it. Michelle also missed her fast-break lay up, and I missed my free throw. At the end of Quarter 2, it was like playing football because the scoreboard only shows 2 for Ipeka Tomang (my school) and 3 for Yadika. That indicates how much we are struggling the whole quarter never really score but a constant battle between getting and loosing the ball.…
