It was a warm, sticky, and humid Friday evening in late August at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe, Hawaii. I had just got done, turning in my M-16 at the armory and was told that we were off work and the word for Monday was 0545 PT (physical training). I dreaded the walk with my 65 pound pack back to the barracks and up the 3 flights of stairs. Then I could lock my pack away and finally get a shower because after hiking 6 miles from 0430 to 1030 in 70-80 degree weather wasn’t fun. After I got to my room and out of the shower Sergeant Brown and Lance Corporal Barbie came knocking at my door. They barked get dressed “Boot” we are having a case race. I knew then that tonight was going to get crazy and out of hand fast. After all case races are always a good time the rules are simple people pair up in teams of 2 and the goal is to finish you 30 can case of beer first without puking or falling asleep. There is never really any prize for the winning pair except the bragging rights to be able to call everyone else any kind of slanderous phases you can come …show more content…
We get to the 7 day and I see everyone there that will be in the case race that night: Sergeant Brown and his partner Lance Corporal Barbie, Lance Corporal Pettie and Mireles, and the last team Lance Corporal Coins and Lance Corporal McVay. I choose my favorite beer Coors light, because after all I haven’t lost when drinking it yet. We race back over to the barracks and I stuff 20 beers from the 30 pack in my fridge and then Oliva stuffs the other 10 in his fridge. Now it has been proven I can drink 8 beers for everyone else is 6 so this race is really mine to

My friends and I were at my friend Alex’s house we were all ready to play some airsoft we all already arrived in our gear. My gear consisted of british armor infantry desert BDUs (Battle dressed uniform) a face mask, a boone hat, a military grade vest and, a desert camo backpack which held water, snacks, and pellets. I had also brought my tormentor, an automatic rifle with a semi automatic mode and a pump action fire for close quarters, but we made a rule at close quarters you can only have pistols. We started picking teams. “Logan, Andrew F, and Jake on one side since Logan has a spring loaded single fire assault rifle and Andrew F has a single action sniper, Jake since you have the only automatic weapon (Ak-74U model) you will be team leader”.…

With only a thousand meters left, my eyelids grew heavy and my blinks became prolonged; I was beginning to lose consciousness. I was nearing the end of the PacWest cross country conference championship race. The day began just like any other race day except I now had six months of training behind me. Earlier that morning, I looked out onto the hilly green Hawaiian course situated next to the ocean. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath which seemed to last forever.…

Ever since I was young I have recognized my intrinsic passion for leadership, service, and computers. Although I was never known to turn down a game of capture the flag or flashlight tag, I spent a lot of my time reading about the Navy SEALs or about how to distinguish an F-15 Eagle from an F-14 Tomcat. I would stay up late to figure out how to make programs or build websites for fun. One of the more vivid memories I have is when I decided to disassemble my family’s new x486 computer, only to reassemble it upon my parent’s stern demand. My passion and desire to lead is what eventually led to my involvement in organizations such as the Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol.…

The gun shot in the air and I ran as fast as I could. As soon as I passed the starting line, the chip on my shoe started running the clock; timing how long it would take for me to make it to the finish line. I had trained for this very day in which I would run for the half marathon. Having had run several five kilometer races I never thought I would have doubled the miles. Blood circulating in and out of my heart faster and faster I could not feel my legs.…

Out of nowhere, the city police force ordered everyone to step aside. Using a red megaphone, the officer publicized, “All mile run contestants, please walk towards the entrance. Eagerly, I kept my cool and sauntered down the aisle. We were admitted into the arena, and were forced into a bare conference room. We sat in the vinyl padded seats, and the officer started to talk more at us than to us.…

Fthew. The ringing of the gunshots were still fresh in my ears as the bullets whizzed by my head. I was about ready to pass out from exhaustion, mainly because I had been running for the last five minutes at almost a full sprint and, to be honest, I never got higher than a B- in gym. I breathed a sigh of relief as I noticed a store with a door open, most of the buildings I’d passed were foreclosed and chained shut.…

There I was, anxiously waiting for the guy at the starting line to shoot the gun so we can begin our journey to the finish line. After what felt like a lifetime, the gun went off and everyone took off like a stampede of wildly angry animals. I began sprinting while remembering to count to five in my head, slowly declining to a fast jog, then to a slower jog with big strides. Some of the other girls and I played tag for a while, they passed me and I passed them, which was the start of the race to the end. The pack of runners turns a corner and my legs nearly collapsed when I saw what was ahead, a very slow yet steep inclined hill.…

“Go! Just do it already!” My heart began to beat faster and faster as I began to think of the outcomes in my head, there was no turning back now. I was sitting on a tree stomp barely above the powder that had fallen previously the night before it was just high enough to keep me from touching the snow, I looked down at my binding and pretended to fix it but really I was just finding a way to stall my eager friends. I sat there staring down at my biggest goal but also my worst fear.…

I’ve never been to a college football game before, nor do I know the slightest bit about it. But I figured it would be just like going to a high school home coming game but with more people. I had been waiting for this day for weeks. I could smell the morning dew as I woke.…
