Personal Narrative Essay: A Sad Time In My Life

A sad time in my life made me realize how ungrateful and unwitting we as people can really be. It was a bright and sunny Sunday; the wind was flowing and keeping it cool. My family and I decided to go to a flea market to look around and see some livestock. It was a normal and unusual day, nothing seemed out of place... sadly I was very mistaken. My cousin and I were wandering around the flea market exploring. There was such a variety of animals and items to see. I went walking near the dogs they had for sale, and me being the person I am, I wanted to purchase the dogs. I found my parents and before I even had the chance to discuss it with them, they told me it was time to go. We had been spending the day with my godparents and their kids, my cousins, as well.

The food was delicious. I got the same as always: rice with some meat. We finished up and proceeded home afterwards. The trip to back to my house took about an hour and a half. I was very exhausted as soon as we made it home, I laid in bed and watched the television. My time lying down did not last very long, because my uncle received a phone call that would change our lives forever. It was my godmother and she sounded afflicted; there was fear in her tone. She murmured, “I think he is hurt! I think he is dead!” The look on me and my uncle’s face froze. I was dumbfounded by what I heard. My uncle and I got in his car and drove off as fast as we possibly could. We picked up two of my other uncles and proceeded on. My heart was pounding against my chest … I could hear it in my head: the fear of losing not only a family member but my godfather.
