It was the eve before Easter 2008. My family was visiting my aunt and uncle who lived on lake Zumbro, which is near Rochester, Minnesota. We were in their garage playing foosball. This is when we my sister received one of the biggest message of both of our lives.

Our cement apron was shattered by the sheer heat of the fire. The garage and the living room was burnt to the ground. The white kitchen cabinets were blackened along with the entire room. I remember the plastic wrapping on the food was melted away. My sisters room was non-existent. I remember my room the most, the once blue walls were now the color of soot. The windows were shattered. Mostly water and smoke that had damaged my room. Our basement was in the same condition.
The house I had spent my entire life was ruined. Destroyed beyond repair. We spent one week in a hotel while we tried to figure out what the heck we were going to do. My family stayed at the Best Western in Fargo. I remember waking up extra early because I still had to go to school, but I was now about a half of an hour farther away.
This is when the work began. We had to tear down anything left on our house. We didn’t go through this alone though. We had help from friends, family, and neighbors. My sister’s classmates helped demolish walls. My uncle brought a skid steer to help move the rubble. Things were starting to look up, they were starting to feel almost normal. Thanks to these people and more we could clean
