I saw a lone flower that had sprouted up out of the ground. I looked at it for a while, it was a vibrant yellow, and the color stood out against the ashen dirt. It made me realize that someday this land would be back to its former glory. I didn’t know how long that would take, my all knowing father said it could be fifteen or maybe even twenty years before we would see any real progress. Despite all of that, knowing over time the land would heal gave me hope. If we continued with our tradition every year we would see new growth, each year we could record and document the changes to the campsite.
Although Alta Lake has been badly damaged by wildfires, the land will also heal and regrow. Losing this beautiful piece of land is bittersweet, because it will never be what it once was nevertheless, it will flourish. Nature has it 's own way of working it out, it can be cruel, but it can also be beautiful. Nature can destroy, but it can also create. It creates the green soft grass that covers the hills, the trees that provide us with shade and cover from the unforgiving wind. Alta Lake has been devastated by wildfires, but that damage will not be
