It was a long period of server cold weather in Valley Forge. In December, the snow was inches deep along with continued snowstorms. There was heavy snowfall and heavy rain days after we received a new blanket of snow. Due to the heavy rainfall, flooding had occurred. In the Continental army, it wasn’t a pleasant winter for us. We had lack of proper clothing and military housings to stay warm in. We had built quite a few log huts during the harsh winter. Finding food was very tough. I went on for two to three days without food. There were men that didn’t have any boots as they walked on the snow with bare bloody feet. There were near naked soldiers that wrapped themselves in blankets surrounded by fire, chanting "we want meat". Most soldiers

To many, leaving the Army is treason, however at times with hardships like these, safety is a greater outcome than suffering. In the painting by William Henry Powell titled Committee of Congress at Valley Forge (Document B) it is clear of extremely cold weather and improper equipment. The ground is covered in snow multiple inches high in what appears to be a large open field. In the painting the soldier three men away from Washington appears to have broken shoes exposing his bare feet to the freezing snow. Many people from the 1700's to now can agree that if they were offered those conditions or a warm house in the Winter they would almost always choose the house.…

Leaving the Valley Forge Winter at the Valley Forge is the worst. That is why I’m going to quit. First I am hoping not to die because of all the illnesses going around. There were 12,000 soldiers in December 1777, but because of all the bad clothes, bad cookery, and cold weather, now there are only 8,000 left.(Doc A and Doc C) If George Washington had asked the Congressional Committee for more supplies I would have stayed. She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…

Remember Think of it this way; if you were going to fight in the war, leaving your mom and dad in the safety of their home, then you end up standing in the middle of the battlefield. Turning into one of the many dead bodies that are all over the place. Your life flashes before your eyes as you see a fast, terrifying bullet coming right at you, then time stops. And you’re dead as well. Only a day or two passes before your parents get the news that their son/daughter will not be coming home.…

The only thing in the world that’s constant is war. It was an aphorism murmured in the sticky summer of 1864 as the Civil War tore America apart—and it was a truth that had only become more evident in my more than twenty years as a vampire. Every time I picked up the paper, there were stories of humans fighting humans: brawls on the streets of San Francisco, uprisings in India, insurrections all over Europe. And once blood had been shed and graves marked, they’d start all over again.…
