I am Erika Vasquez. This year is my first in 4-H. I am fourteen. My parents are Oscar and Dany Vasquez. I have one younger sibling. Her name is Angela. I live near Slocum, Texas. My school is Slocum ISD. I have two horses. My hobbies are reading, soccer, and drawing. Even though I don't own one, I love cats. My dream job is a radiologist. I discovered 4-H at my school's Meet and Greet. 4-H had a display board explaining their purpose in the hallway.

My project goals were altering recipes into a healthier version of it, improve my teamwork skills, get more knowledge of handling food, and gain a better understanding of nutrients. The reason I chose these goals was to help my mom and others with cooking and to improve my baking. After

Early October, I assisted in a trash clean-up with the Ioni Creek 4-H. After two long hours, we collected 25 bags of trash. On October 3rd and 24th, I went to two Food Show workshops, in which I learned multiple things. Four days before the County Food Show, I practiced in front of my club my quinoa granola bars. On November 14, I went to the County Food Show, which I presented my Quinoa granola bars. I got first place in the Grains category. On January 11, somebody asked me if I wanted to join the Food Challenge team because they needed one more team member. Incipiently, I only wanted to compete in the Food Show, but I later changed my mind. I went to the Food Challenge workshop on January 31. I had fun working with the other team members. It was February 3rd, the day of the District Food Extravaganza. I was a bit nervous about the Food Show, but I was ready for the Food Challenge. At the Food Challenge, we compete in the main dish. Our dish was named Yukon meets Tex-Mex tacos. We won first place. At the Food Show, I presented my granola bars and got fifth place. March 5th, our school had a fish fry fundraiser for FFA and 4-H. Ms. Herring said on this date her live-in-boyfriend of 13 years, Brian Mott, battered her because there were no cigarettes in the residence.
