It was 5:00 am when my roommate woke me up. I had gone to bed a mere 3 hours earlier. This was the third day in a row I had gotten so little sleep. I was in Detroit with my youth group at the ELCA’s National Youth Gathering. I, along with 30,000 other Lutheran teens, was in Detroit for the week as a service project. Groggily, I made my way out the door for a short morning run to wake myself up before our next long day. After the run, I got ready for the day set ahead of me. It was my group’s service day.
