I met with Ms. Yankowsky at her company’s office, she had her own office in the building. When I arrived she guided me into her small office. We had a brief handshake, I noticed her hands were oddly cold, but soft. It wasn’t quite palm to palm, but it was stronger than I expected from her. I noticed she dressed professionally but comfortable, she mentioned that because she doesn’t typically work directly with clients on a daily basis she doesn’t have to wear professional attire every day. We sat on opposite sides of her desk with minimal items between us. She had a desktop computer, pictures of her family, and a few office supplies laying on her desk. I could tell she was normally soft-spoken to her coworkers, but one on one she seemed more confident since I came to her. …show more content…
As I started asking her questions, we both got more comfortable. She would lean back in her chair, cross her legs or arms. If she had to think about a question, she would lean on her desk with crossed arms. I could see her feet from under the desk and if they were on the floor she was softly shifting them back and forth. Occasionally, she would pick up a pen, fidget with it, and put it down. As she talked about her experience in college she would get wide-eyed and have quick movements as she was excited to talk about her old alma mater. She didn’t gesture very much as she kept her hands in her lap or on her desk majority of the time. The only nervous habit she seemed to have was she would She didn’t stand up, make any big movements, or got distracted by anything. Her eye contact was a mix of somewhere on my face or on something behind me. If she mentioned a physical object or person, she would look at the object or at the door. She would smile or have a neutral expression with each question I asked

When asked to break six communication rules I normally follow, I knew I could not go too over the top because I would not be able to remain serious throughout the encounter. I decided to keep it simple and disregard minor rules which would create a reaction, but not anything that would make me laugh and “break character.” The three nonverbal rules I chose to manipulate were sitting in an elevator, greeting every person who walked passed me in a grocery store with a wave or high five (no verbal communication), and making direct eye contact with as many people as possible as they walked by me in a Target. It was obvious that people were surprised to see me sitting on the floor of an elevator as they shuffled their way in. Most people tried to…

Enrolling in this class is particularly important to me as my communication with my five teenage children has taken a dramatic nosedive since their father and I divorced. All five primarily live with me, and spend time with their dad three weekends a month as per our custody agreement. The pain following a divorce is not exclusive, they are all suffering. Some show it more overtly and tend to be more aggressive with me in their choice of communication, however, all could benefit from me improving my interpersonal communication skills. (p.11)…

The relationship I chose to analyze for my interpersonal communication paper was the relationship I had with my ex-girlfriend Laura. We met in high school through mutual friends and we dated throughout my junior and senior years. Communication problems and trust issues eventually were too big of a barrier to knock down and our relationship ended there. The main concepts I chose to analyze about my previous relationship were Personal Language, Nonverbal Communication, Proximity, the Social Penetration Theory, and lastly Relationship Threats. Personal Language shows your true self and is how you express your individuality and it is also more common in a private setting.…

High school is hard enough with the pressure of maintaining an above average GPA, extracurricular activities, a social life, and the responsibilities at home. The last thing any high school student wants or needs is to be the talk of the school because of an invasion of their privacy but it has happened to both males and females across the world. I’ve seen the outcome of what sexting leads to about two years ago. In my tenth grade homeroom, I always sat by the same girl every day. We never talked to one another because she hung with a different crowd that wasn’t quite friendly.…
