In Spanish, one must solve the problem of needing to use the bathroom by learning ‘Donde es el banyo?’ In music glaring tonal imperfection can often be solved through the use of a tuning fork. However, when the problem is one of a persona nature the solution becomes more vague and undefined. Like the idea of an irrational number, character traits often seem elusive. That is where I come into the picture. If there were a problem within my individual character it would have to be one of stubbornness. I always want to sit in the front seat on car trips. I’ve always stood passionately by those tastes. When I was a younger teenager I loved punk rock music. I loved it so much in fact, I created my own punk rock band. I didn’t care that we weren’t very good. I just loved what I was doing, no matter what anyone said. I developed my own original thought throughout the years. My thoughts are partially based on the various books I’ve read. From philosophy to magazines, I enjoy a wide variety. Some of the things I get out of books or life lessons, I believe in heavily. I believe in equality, respect of others, and loyalty. Never in my life has it been hard for me to stand for what I believe in.
Going after my goals is extremely important to me. I’ve always been a kid with big dreams; constantly being reminded how unlikely they were to come true. Being born without a hand made me fairly callous to people doubting me, so I’m not too fazed by nonbelievers. My path has been somewhat figured out for me for a while now. I’ve always wanted to: go to college, engage with the arts, travel the world, and overall live my life to the fullest. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll do it. My mother always told me that I can get whatever I want from life, that’s exactly what I plan to

Over 15 years ago, Robert Nash (2011) developed a new academic writing style called Scholarly Personal Narrative (SPN). For the first time in academics the unacceptable use of the ‘subjective I [me]’was acceptable in scholarly writing. Before SPN only the ‘objective they [we]’ was appropriate for research because scholars believed that only experts could support an agreeable or disagreeable topic. Nash (2011) wanted SPN to become, “a respectable research genre in higher education, particularly in the professional schools” (p. 4), so he wrote his first book, Liberating Scholarly Writing: The Power of Personal Narrative (2004).…

The question of our childhood seemed to be one that we can all recall: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Typically, we would say things like, “I want to be an astronaut,” or, “I want to be a princess.” As kids, we think big; however, as we get older, we figure that these aspirations to be a ballerina, to be the president, become more farfetched. Instead, we set more day-to-day based goals. Our goals change all the time.…
