Personal Narrative: Early Childhood Education

Decent Essays
On Wednesday, September 27th, I attended Concordia College’s first Psychology meeting of the fall semester. The psychology club occurred on Wednesday evening at five p.m. and was located in the Brick Yard. I wanted to become a member of this club, because, I believe that psychology is important toward the development of my students in the future. Since this is my freshman year, I wanted to discover clubs that I found fascinating to possibly join. Before I attended the meeting I was sort of nervous about what the club may have been like. When I came to the meeting, both the older and newer members were welcoming toward me. I wanted a club that would challenge myself and that could relate to my major which is Early Childhood Education. I was

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…

In attempt to develop range in my observation of support groups, I once again found myself returning to an old stomping ground. Throughout my years in high school, I dedicated several hours a week to my local church in a growth group for high school girls. Although I currently experience mixed emotions with religion, I recalled how influential it was during my teenaged years to have such support, convincing me to return to observe a group to identify ways in why it was so helpful for me during difficult moments in my life. Luckily, my previous growth group leader was still leading groups and graciously accepted my request to be a guest that following week. Meeting once a week, the purpose of these groups was to discuss the Bible and life issues, but based on personal experience, these groups offered much more than a few life lectures.…

Among the variety of fraternities, sororities, and clubs that are open to all students of University of California, Riverside, I chose to join Circle K International, a Kiwanis affiliated organization of college and university students which promotes service, leadership and fellowship. Unlike the more well known affiliations within our campus, such as Pi Alpha Phi or Alpha Chi Omega, Circle K of University of California, Riverside does not receive the recognition it deserves, nor the prestige it has earned through service from bettering our community. I actually came to know about this club’s existence back in high school while participating in Key Club, which is the high school level of Kiwanis. Throughout my years of being in Key Club, my…

Personal Philosophy I believe that all children are unique and bring their own knowledge and experiences to any educational environment. I believe the early childhood environment is a place for children to be free agents to; develop, learn, grow and express themselves, while having the confidence and respect they as a person are entitled to. Furthermore I also belie that all children have the right to learn and their learning be abundant with experiences, knowledge and quality, as well as feeling a sense of belonging to their community and learning environment. These beliefs are important to my teaching and my philosophy of early childhood eduction.…

I have participated in a number of clubs and extracurricular activities during my time attending Roman Catholic High School. I started playing rugby my freshman year in high school. We were not the best team, but we had a lot of fun and also won a few games. We did not get much better during the following years, mostly because we were not blessed with the same size and athleticism as other school’s teams in our league were. Now in my last year, I am being nominated for a captain position to help lead the younger students in games and also help them develop as a player and student for Roman Catholic.…

“Hey Mr. Quinton can you help me read this?” At this moment in my life I realized that I’m not a child anymore, physically or mentally. I was in the predicament of actually helping real children. About two summers ago I began my volunteer service as a peer tutor, at a learning center, assisting with children ranging from pre-kindergarten to sixth grade. On my first day of work I had no idea what to expect.…

On the first day that I was observing in the preschool it took the kids a little while to really want to talk to me. I was there during the afternoon so half of the kids had already gone home for the day. When I first got there they had just woken up from a nap so I helped to get Emelia up for snack time. She did not really say very much to me and I tried to help her with her shoes and her hair bow, but she seemed to be able to do it all on her own. Once the kids had finished their snack it was then time to go outside to play.…

My earliest memories of my educational experience were unfortunately not very positive. I am sure that this has a lot to do with the fact that negative experiences are remembered much more strongly than positive ones, but nonetheless these are the main memories I personally recall. My first day of Kindergarten was very hard. I had not been in any form of day care or preschool setting. I had spent all the time before that moment at home with my mother.…

One of my most vivid childhood memories was when I was ten years old and my parents did something that we still talk about this day. I can still remember the smell of breakfast as I woke up that morning knowing that it was going to be a long day because we were driving to, rather than just flying South Carolina, to watch my oldest brother graduate. My younger brother turned on the lights so that he could see around the room that we both shared causing me to wake up and not fall back to sleep. As I laid there in my bed smelling bacon and coffee from downstairs I remember thinking that it was way too early for anyone to be awake. It was 8 in the morning and now that I look back on it 8 in the morning is not that bad and I wish I could still wake…

There are many organizations all around UT but the one that caught my eye the most and the one that I’m gonna be writing about is the German Club. I chose this organization because my heritage is almost complete German and throughout the past couple years I have been interested in learning the German language, learning their history from all the way back to when the country was first realized to all the way to present day and most of all just really getting to know what my heritage is about. The German club is the perfect club because in it they teach all about Germany from its language, culture and history and since history is one of my favorite subjects I really can get involved because I always love to learn new things about Germany’s history.…
