Personal Narrative: Early Childhood Development

It’s crazy to imagine that a person you shared a womb with will also be sharing your life with you. My brother, Will, is my younger twin by only eight minutes. It is something special having a twin. You share EVERYTHING, and I mean literally. We shared a mom during infancy, we shared clothes, we shared the same room, sleeping in twin beds for upwards of sixteen years, and lastly, we share a birthday. In 2002, my father was playing with Will and I, and he noticed that Will’s attention was always straying, and he had a hard time understanding concepts of early development games we played. My parents made the decision to have him see a local psychologist. She tested him for any ASDs, or Autism Spectrum Disorders. She diagnosed him with a developmental …show more content…
He began to cry, and I hugged him and said, “Will, never let anyone tell you that you are not”. This is where I made a bad decision. In middle school, a kid was making fun of him, and because of his social skills, as well as the fact that he is the nicest kid you'll meet, he had no idea. He thought they were laughing with him. I took matters into my own hands, and I hit the kid, faced a mediocre punishment, and my parents put me into private school. After issues like this I realized the gravity of it all. Not only will I never be closer with anyone in my life, this person will probably have to be dependent on my sister and I for the rest of his life.
As I have grown older it has slowly become easier to handle the situation. Will was held back in school, and participates in classes and clubs to assist him in his social and educational development. He even assisted in starting a “Friendship Club”, where people in relatively similar situations can meet and interact like they would not be able to elsewhere.
Now onto present day Will. Here are some facts about

His grades are poor, he will be dependent on someone else for his whole life, and he has yet to learn how to drive or do some basic things teenagers do. This is where my sister and I come into play. I will not lie. I am very nervous and worried about having my twin around my family in the coming years once my parents leave us. I plan to have a wife, a few kids, and of course, a black French Bulldog named either Thor or The Notorious D.O.G. Another fact, the average child costs approximately half a million dollars to raise to the age of eighteen. So, math time, if I plan on having a wife and let’s say two kids, that is one million dollars. Then I have to pay for normal living expenses, oh and then there is Will. While I believe that once he finds a job he loves, he will work tirelessly, the corporate world may not see it this way, and if that reigns true, My sister, myself, along with some inheritance and minute government funding, will be bearing that

While I understand emotions often trump intellect in a post-divorce universe, but seriously Cookie, what does Kalup’s current age have anything to do with him requiring less support? I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…
