Personal Narrative: Driving Through Long Beach

Decent Essays
Driving through Long Beach a week ago Friday, I was honored to be chauffeuring an Italian that just couldn't get enough of the jacarandas -- he said they looked like fairy trees and kept asking what they were called. My parents had jacarandas in each of the backyards of the homes I grew up in here in SoCal. I love seeing the world through the eyes of a journeyer.

When I ride it's like the earth stops at every corner so I can check to make sure a, loud, car isn't roaring towards me. It's like that feeling in your chest that tells you that everything is going to be ok, yet your mind is screaming at you that it won't be. I ride because I was thought that you need to be active in life, but it was never about the one hour of activity time we are supposed to have growing up. it was much more than that. I didn't need help to ride, I needed help to face down my enemies, or conquer my dreams.…

The five hours drive in Pensacola was the longest five hours drive in all the traveling I’ve done. When my dad was driving to Pensacola I felt nervous doing to much thinking but my dad gave me encouragement saying just do me. My games in Pensacola were bad to me because I didn’t have any points, I think I’m the only one on my team who had zero points the whole weekend. I barely had any playing time even when I did a good job on both ends of the court. Most people say it’s not all about points but it is about points because how can you win with zero points it’s impossible.…

Growing up in Southern California we spent most of our summers at Lake Havasu and Parker. For as long as I can remember, getting to spend my summers on the lake with my close friends and family was what got me through the school year, knowing that for a full month I would have no cares in the world except for what adventures lay ahead of us. As the school year came to an end, all we could think about was getting to the lake to start our last summer together before we all ventured off in separate directions. Starting to pack and load up the RV was all I could think about for days, seeing as this was the last summer we would all spend together.…

Even though my mother was raised in Long Beach, she pronounces certain words strange, such as wash like worsh. Her grandmother came from Minnesota, and I believe that is how she came to speak with an almost accent.…

It all begun when I was quite physically, pushed through the birth canal located right here in Berkeley, California. Alta Bates Hospital was where my lovely mother gave birth to a girl. A short period of time following my birth, my family and I relocated across the bridge to San Francisco. The foggy, eccentric city is where I spent, and still spend, my life.…

A few years ago, I was out on New Melones Reservoir fishing with a couple of my childhood friends. We found ourselves far upriver, past the two bridges, with steep canyon walls surrounding us. The sheer vertical cliffs stretched on for miles. There are just a few breaks where the rocks have collapsed due to rainwater that flows down the hillside. This creates a slide.…
