Driving Down Bay Road It’s just twenty-seven minutes away. It’s seven minutes to Rohan’s house, ten minutes to Aditi and Aanya’s house, and then ten minutes to Crescent Ridge. My brother is driving and I’m sitting in the passenger seat. Aanya is sitting in a car seat right behind my brother and Rohan is sitting behind me. Aditi is sitting in the middle. My brother, my cousins, and I really want some ice cream.
Sasha is playing his loud rap music like Chance the Rapper, Big Sean, and Tupac Shakur. The Toyota Camry is as old as me so there are paint scrapes everywhere, dents near the Massachusetts license plate, and the seatbelt in the back doesn’t really work anymore. We make Rohan sit there because he is the oldest. I didn’t want to sit next to him because his long, rough, curly, and black hair always goes everywhere. He may be the oldest but he never got his permit or license because he said he was too lazy to try. Aanya is wearing Aditi’s headphones, because they are sisters, and is listening to Bollywood music. Then Sasha and Aanya finished but Sasha didn’t want to get out so I took Aanya to throw her cup away. The trash had ice cream all over it and there were flies flying around it. Sasha came out later but it wasn’t to throw his cup away but it was because he saw of of his friend there. I think his name was David. They started talking so we went back to the car. I finally finished my ice cream so I went back out and as I threw my cup away I told Sasha to hurry up. In the car, my cousins and I were all staring at my brother anxiously waiting for him to sit in the car. After around five minutes he finally got in with nothing but a smile on his face. I turned on the air conditioning and you could hear the wind blowing out of the vents. The seats were still as hot as the sun and the bright sun shone directly into your eyes. We started

The memory of 126 Riverside Drive will always stay with me. The concrete in front of the apartment overlooking the park is separated into squares and covered in old gum and the occasional chalk doodle. You go up and stand on the single black concrete step and look up at the black marble and the silver 126. You walk in the clear glass door and walk onto the faded tile floor that goes from the bottom of the few lonely stairs through the next door and to the elevator. You feel the cold from the faded brass handrail and walk up the stairs to the buzzer with a list of all the apartments.…
