Personal Narrative: Driving Across The Road

I had just clocked out of work late one night and stepped out the back door into the dark alley. The air was crisp and nipped at my nose as I walked through the freshly fallen snow to my car. The snow still streaming down from the sky made the wind seem completely white. I turned on my car and then my windshield wipers to the highest setting, nevertheless I could not see as I pulled out of the alley. As I rounded the corner my car slid to the right across the road. Even though I had a ton of homework to do when I got home, I decided to drive slowly and carefully to make it home safely. As I was driving along I noticed a car alongside the road with their flashers on. As I drew closer and closer to the vehicle I noticed the car had a flat tire. I looked around frantic to see if there was any more cars out and about this late at night, but of course there were none to be seen. I had no idea what to do. I was only a 16 year old waitress at the time and I did not see how I could possibly help someone with a flat tire. So I drove on and cringed as I passed the vehicle and saw an outline of what seem to be an elderly woman in the front seat. I made excuses for myself the whole way home; there was …show more content…
Instead I was selfish, only thinking of myself and my priorities. I only thought of my feelings in the moment. She was the one who was probably scared out of her mind, frantic about what she was going to do, where she was going to go. I can only imagine how much the hope in her heart dropped as I drove past without much hesitation. I felt terrible about not stopping to help her, however I could not go back without more experienced help than I. Unfortunately when I stepped inside my house, I saw my parents had both fallen asleep while waiting for my return. I thought it would have been rude to wake them and make them help during the terrible winter

I drove my first BMW when I was 20 years old; my boss at the time let me drive his E39 530i home. It was the most amazing thing I had ever drove and decided right then I must have a BMW once I made enough money to afford one. It was fast (to me), handled like it was on rails, quiet, comfortable, and everything a person who loves to drive could really ask for at the time; truly a “the ultimate driving…

When I ride it's like the earth stops at every corner so I can check to make sure a, loud, car isn't roaring towards me. It's like that feeling in your chest that tells you that everything is going to be ok, yet your mind is screaming at you that it won't be. I ride because I was thought that you need to be active in life, but it was never about the one hour of activity time we are supposed to have growing up. it was much more than that. I didn't need help to ride, I needed help to face down my enemies, or conquer my dreams.…

Everything seemed normal as usual, we had left Uncle Phil's house and Pa had even let me drive his truck until the dirt paved roads disappeared and the concrete roads appeared. It was at this point where we would hop out of the truck and switch seats. Pa doesn't trust me yet to drive on the highway but I know I'm…

After five hours under Mrs. Gonzalez’s 1997 Plymouth, my hands were so dirty I had to wash them ten times just to see my fingernails again. She was a familiar face around the shop, given that neighborhood thieves had routinely targeted her car. This time, though, they had gone too far. Someone had crawled underneath the car and cut out the valuable catalytic converter, and she couldn’t afford a replacement. When I looked at her and said, “That’ll be $563,” her face turned pale.…

The lead up to my birthday was spent with me constantly reminding my parents about acquiring a driver’s permit, but was almost always shot down and told that I would not be getting it anytime soon. In my parent’s eyes, I was too much of a distraction while they drove, always showing them the latest picture on social media or changing the radio station and not actually paying attention to their “useful” tips while on the road. “How was it my fault for showing them a funny picture or not listening to them?” , I thought to myself.…

The road most people in my community go down you shouldn't expect me to writing this. My family doesn't have the most money in the world and we don't have the most opportunities here. My hometown is one of the poorest in the country and many people would expect me to just quit school and get a job to support my family, but that was not the case with me. I pushed myself to achieve something greater than what others around me have done. I didn't want to fall into the stereotype that because I am part Mexican I’m lazy or just another trouble maker because I'm not that!…
