Personal Narrative: Dog Town

“Gavin, we need to go,” Mom called from downstairs.

“I’m ready,” I replied as I ran down and tossed my gear in the car

I was finally ten years old and could now attend the Best Friends Animal Camp. I was spending the next three days at a mountain camp caring for dogs that needed love and attention. Here the dogs were allowed to roam freely, safe and protected from the tough life they had experienced. The camp was a peaceful setting for dogs that were waiting for a home.

“The camp letter states the dogs live in ‘Dog Town’. That is where I want to volunteer,” I said excitedly.

We reached camp before noon. First I was greeted by the camp leaders where I signed in and received my instructions. Next I was given directions to get to “Dog
