Personal Narrative: Discipleshiphip Groups

Improved Essays
Every week I run the soundboard at my church during junior high sunday school as well as help lead one of the discipleship groups. Doing this allowed me to get to know many of the middle schoolers and realize just how much I have grown and matured both physically and in my faith in the last four years. I also realized that as their leader I needed to live up to the image of a senior in Highschool I had when I was a seventh grader. This made me want to be a better person when they saw me at church, at a High School game, and even when they were not around. I began spending less time with Netflix and more time with my Bible.

Earlier this year my church hosted a “Lock In” where the students spent an entire night (usually fully awake) at the

When I was in the 10th grade, my high school had begun to do something called Spirit Week. Now, if you do not know what spirit week is this is when you have a different activity for each day of the week, for example on Monday it may be cartoon day and you get to dress as your favorite character. Well, on this day it was “Throwback Thursday” and my friends and I decided that we were going to dress up as TLC. So, that day we talked about everything that we had planned to wear and we decide that we wanted to wear bandanas.…

Many people don’t know what they want to be when they “grow up”, as for my mother she didn’t know what type of religion she wanted to be in when she “grew up”. However, she did know the basics that she believed in which was God, the Holy Spirit, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Bible that being said she considered herself Christian and raised me as a Non-Denominational Christian. That was until my senior year of High School when my mom decided she no longer wanted to be part of the Non-Denominational Christian faith and switched over to becoming part of the LDS faith known as the Mormons and flipped my life upside-down with their different views of norms and values. Growing up Non-Denominational Christian is fairly simple faith and to me…

Discuss a leadership experience you have had in any area of your life: school, work, athletics, family, church, community, etc. How and why did you become a leader in this area? How did this experience influence your goals? I was playing soccer with my friends in my neighborhood just a normal day everything looked as usual. But while I was playing soccer I was hearing a noise, not knowing if I am the only one who is hearing I felt deluded for a moment and stopped playing soccer and headed to the direction where the noise was coming from.…

With the help of the teachers, and the other volunteers that were working with me, I learned how to be open to others and their opinions in small groups, and how to interact with kid that had serious problems in their life or had not accepted Christ as their personal Savior. By the end of the week, 126 kids gave their lives to Christ. In my group, I helped 5 of those kids know Jesus. I honestly can say that from this experience I feel that I have touched at least one of the kids I supervise. From getting personal with the kids in the small groups to just playing games or walking with them, I have truly connected and made a relationship with them.…

My worldview closely resembles the Biblical Worldview described in the Charry text, but by no means is anywhere near where it could be. My Christian character will continue to develop and mature throughout my life as I continue to study the scriptures, commune with God in prayer, continually ask for repentance, and forgiving those who have showed transgressions toward me. L. Gregory Jones states, “Christian living requires a willingness to inquire after the God of Jesus Christ, an inquiry which shapes us a people of repentance and forgiveness” (Charry, 2000, p. 204). Repentance and forgiveness are two aspects of the Christian walk that I struggle with. There are many times that I get so busy with life that I forget to prayerfully repent…

The Awakening Challenging, demanding, dynamic, and unpredictable were all words that describe Dr. Powell, my Sophomore English teacher. Her rigorous teaching style left me with unrelenting anxiety. I feared that I would not meet my own high expectations in her class. Eventually, the fear that consumed me dispelled; I became used to her unpredictable style and started to feed off of and crave the challenge her class provided. She unearthed a side of me I never knew I possessed.…

Now that we are all pinching pennies, a lot of people are traveling together with coworkers, friends or family, or perhaps with a tour group. There are times when I enjoy charting the waters on my own and times when I welcome the kindred spirits of fellow travelers on my journeys. If you are new to this type of traveling or if you would just like to make your trips better, there are certain behaviors and attitudes that are different when traveling with a group of two or more people. Here are some suggestions that I have taking note of in my group travels: In order to take care of your own personal needs in this trip, make sure you are realistic and also creative about what you pack. If you know you will not get much privacy or time alone,…

On August 26, 2005, I gave my life to Christ, and it was the start of a whole new chapter of my journey. I still remember that night vividly in my head. The feelings of excitement, joy, and love were very tangible in my heart. My mom and dad were both sitting beside me on my bed while I was told the importance of this decision and how my life would never be the same. Even at 5 years old, I was aware of my decision to follow Jesus and accept him into my heart.…

During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church. Watching certain senior youth members, I didn’t understand why they would just come to the fun events.
