Personal Narrative: Disc Golf

Improved Essays
The most important memory of Disc Golf for myself is the first time I had experienced a round with my brother Dylan. Growing up as a child I had always admired Dylan and looked up to him as a role model. Any idea or activity that had popped into his would usually be pushed upon me for trial. He always seemed to introduce me to ravishing new music and movies but this time was different. The game was Disc Golf and when it was mentioned, my body language portrayed the excited emotions I was feeling inside. Not only was I excited for the game, but I got to enjoy time with Dylan which had been rare around that time frame. That day gave me a different perspective on the game of Disc Golf and how it can change one's life and relationships with others for the better.

I stepped out of the car and instantly adapted to the environment around me. Tall grass, luscious trees, and a glistening pond exemplified the beauty of the course. As I walked to the first tee pad, Dylan made sure to inform me about everything I needed to know about the game, how it is played, who throws first, and other proper edicate techniques only an experienced Disc Golf player would know. He proceeded to talk himself up, as I stood by and took mental notes of his feet position and arm angle. For a split second I had looked away and missed the throw, now I was stuck. Slowly but surely I made my way onto the cement tee pad and anticipated Dylan's input for advice, but it never came. Confused, I proceeded to think about my shot and where I wanted to put the disc. Thanks to my peripheral vision, I adjusted my shot accordingly to avoid the burly pond twenty feet off to the left. Confidence took over and I took my shot. The disc soared in a straight line which eventually evolved into a right to left flight pattern landing around two hundred feet away from the hole. Walking up to my shot gave me a sense of feeling I did not feel very often,

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

The course looked inviting and manicured, taunting players to challenge it. From the numerous balls in the water and into neighboring backyards, I would say that it has a pretty good win percentage. I walked to the practice green in order to roll a few practice putts, make a few short chip shots, go through a quick stretching routine, and take a multitude of practice swings. Just like any other round, the thought of shooting par, playing to the level that the course was designed for, had crossed my mind. I have played the course probably over a hundred times.…

Exposure to most of the traumatic life experiences that have whittled away at some of my peers has, thankfully, evaded me; however, even subtle experiences can revolutionize a previously held belief. I have learned to not ever take an experience for granted and learn from each of my mistakes. Each and every person only has one life to live on earth; why waste something so precious by making the same mistakes? As a child I was forced to grow up rapidly. Brandon, someone who has been playing disc golf for quite some time and had invited me to participate, had the daunting task of explaining the rules and etiquette of the game to me. The rules of disc golf are relatively simple and were easy to learn. At the beginning of each “hole” there is a launch pad where one start one’s throw. After one makes his or her initial throw, they can take one step in any direction other than forward from where the disc landed in order to avoid obstacles. If the disc lands in a tree than one must throw from directly below where it initially landed.…

Baseball Baseball has always been one of my favorite sports, and it will always be the longest sport I’ve played. A total of 9 years in Khoury league and 2 years in high school, so all in all I have been playing this sport almost all my life. I started baseball with the Red Bud T-ball team, the team had a count of 15 people including me and excluding the coaches. Those 15 kids playing on that team became some of my bestest friends and greatest teammates to have. Most of them ended up being with me until we couldn't play khoury league anymore, and then only about 3 or 5 of them played school ball with me.…

Imagery plays a crucial role in the ability to picture your proper swing prior to a shot. Ability to visualize the swing, or placement of a shot, before it is taken offers any golfer a clear vision of the task at hand. When visualizing a swing, or shot a golfer should think in pictures not words, physically seeing the shot take place in one’s head. Knowledge of the game is decisive, in having adequate proficiency to play each shot consistently. Club selection, as well as awareness of position on the course are invaluable to well-placed shots.…
